I looked at both when I bought my Slingshot.
Obviously, I chose the Hustler.
My main reason was cabin size.
Frankly speaking, the 38 Fountain cabin is very small.
I also liked the ride of the Slingshot a little better.
I think they are very close on speed.
They are both nice boats.
Just my opinion and you know what they say about those..

Isn't "Looks" usually the first attraction anyway...

Probably because that anchor locker takes up so much room.

Rightfully so, the boat is 3 feet shorter....

Do you agree that the Hustler is a much bigger boat for the money, even if the speed is within 1-3 miles an hour. How about quality on the Hustler, I am not that familiar with them because there aren't alot around to see up close

get in both. spend sometime on the water and and see which one feels good to you. both are great boats and i dont think you would go wrong in either, i think the hustler would be a little faster on top end if your looking at the non step and the single step fever and i think the twin step 38 lightning might get the nudge on top end over the 388. im not a fan of the tall windshields on fountain but i do like the 38 twin step lightning with a race fairing or the low framed windshield and staggered of course.

If three miles an hour is an issue whipple it and go with the Hustler, way better looking. If you dont care about looks you minght as well buy a mid 90's fountain, no-one would be able to tell the difference and you'd save some more cash for bigger motors.
