I have friends with both, one with a 99 hustler slingshot, 500 carbed engines, the other with a 2000 38 fountain with 500 EFIs. I've spent seat time in both. The hustler is 2 mph faster GPS, 84+ versus 82+.

Both ride and handle well. The hustler is a bigger boat. IMO it has nicer interior with the McLeod versus Reggie bolsters.

Other than that they are both nice boats. My pick would be Hustler. But I just like the looks of the Hustler better than the Fountain.

Isn't that why most of us come here Luci? For the entertainment value......

And of course the real time, real experienced opinions over a magazine write up by people that are paid for selling advertising...

Ok here goes and I might get a reaction on this one.

Fountain is not in the same line as the Hustler, you would have a better comparison with Fountain too Formula.

Hustler is more of a custom boat manufacture. A 388 Hustler is really a 40 foot boat. You already see what Fountain is.
Go with the Hustler, will be alot better return and what really matters is the fun factor.

Hustler's slingshot includes the integrated swim platform. I thought the specs on the boat were just under 39 feet including the swim platform.

I here ya on that one. It does make good entertainment.

I just don't get the idea when comparing boats. No one in their right mind would ever compare a Vette to a Mustang to a Ferrari, etc. Ya just can't do it. It's like saying: What came 1st? The chicken or the egg? There is no right answer.

Thumbs down Re: Fountain

If spending over 150K for rigging that includes chromed brass fittings made to look like stainless steel in their in house steering, trim molding that falls apart and plastic tie wraps holding up the electrical harnesses suits you...then go with the high performance Bayliner, I mean Fountain.

Check Motor Trend - they compare them all the time.

Why is everyone even mentioning what they think looks better? That is a personel opinion that should be left to the buyer, not a bunch of 'nit wits' Has no bearing on someones desicion. Focus on the quality, speed, handleing and all around layout of what you find to work or not.

And as usual, I sure like owning a boat that everyone likes to compare against. Don't recall that being the case with any other brand. Thanks

Ok, carry on. Done preachin. (Is that allowed?)
