I have never dynoed any of the motors I have run in my boats or cars and they have always performed to my expectations with some minor dialing in. Lately I have been less than impressed with the "turn key" dyno tuned stuff I have seen from less than the best shops. It makes zero sense to dyno a motor unless the exact components will be used in the boat in my opinion. That dyno session was essentially useless except for to begin the break in process. EGT's are good but O2 readings are better. Both is the best scenario.

I just want to say------------any good engine builder shouldn't have to backfire the motor and think this is (OK) practice if this happens just to find out where to put the dist. for initial startup. All you have to do is bring up #1 cyl on the compression stroke, rotate the balancer to aprox. 12 deg. before top dead center(if you run mech. advance) then make sure the rotor points at the #1 pin in the cap.( making sure the dist. is seated all the way into the oil pump shaft) This will insure that the motor starts up the first time and doesn't do STUPID S##T like we watched in the video. If that was a billet MSD dist. and he hit it with a hammer, I'd probably hit him with the distributor.
My 5 cents!

good eye that was a billet msd dist he was beating on with the hammer and screw driver...do you think the backfire could have hurt the power valve in the dist?

i meant the power valve in the carb...i know they don't take kindly to backfires. the motors stopped makin power at 5400. i have big brodie heads and team g intakes and am running cranes biggest hyd roller the 139661 straight up, what kept the motor from more power higher up?
