prop question
im getting ready to put the 454 mag/alpha back into my 26 scarab excel. Havent ever run the boat, and its got a 14.5x17 turbo 3 blade prop. This seems a little small for the pitch. Any advice on the correct prop for this boat? Engine is pretty stock exc for a 420 type replacement cam, holley 750 and stock merc exhaust. Thanks.

Re: prop question
KLMKEN - He would do a solid 68 any day, and 70 when conditions were right. He dyno'd out at 425 hp. I built a similar motor for a different Pachanga witha B1. He did a solid 70 with a 23 mirage plus.

Re: prop question
if you are runnin a 454 alpha you better think about runnin a set of hardened upper gears or you will be drivin toast-its not hp its torgue that will beat that drive to death

Re: prop question
Normally I would agree, maybe the Pachanga being a light boat helps, but its a stock 19 year old alpha, mildly modified 454, and it shifts and runs perfect - knock on wood. How many B1's can say that?

Good old Rochester - I boat on Lake Ontario, just west of the Genessee River - I'm sure you've heard of our infamous Fast Ferry. Do a search on some of Puder's Posts. He also has an older excel but he's modified it quite a bit. There are about 10+ Scarab excels that often post under the Scarab section. A couple near Lake George, some by the Hudson. Good luck with yours, I'm forever modifying something on mine - it's a disease.
