Default oil thermastat install

Yes, I searched many threads but I still haven't found what I need.
I know one of you guys can help me.
I don't have an oil cooler bypass system and I want to install one.(condensation and too low oil temp) I have a remote oil filter set up that has two extra plugged off places and I have the oil cooler. I'm just not sure where to mount the oil temp sensor for proper readings and then how the (low temp) bypass system ties into the current oil system I have. I understand the theory just not sure if a company offers a kit or do I rig this on my own or what?
Thanks,
Tom

pantera..
I have the same unit from Keith and it doenst work.... I hooked it up according to the diagram that came with it... and the oil temp just kept climbing.. I removed it and the cooler worked just fine...

I am wondering how you mounted the unit.. I had mine upside down... Hot oil in the input port, but it was on the bottom... Not sure if that was the cause of it not working...

Any suggestions??

Thanks
Dick

I did take the unit apart and boiled it.. cant remember what the temp was, but it worked fine.. But when in the boat.. I would take for ever for the oil to start to come up to temp and then it kept climbing.. I was going to send it back to Keith, but it keeps slipping my mind... I should contact him and find out what the deal is... I was totally disappointed.. cause it seems like a great idea..

I think a better way would be to bypass water in the oil cooler until it came up to temp.. That way you would have uniform oil temp throught out the system. And control water flow to keep it at a constant temp..

Thanks
Dick

I was looking through the KE catalog and saw the remote oil thermostatic filter and head unit. It seems like it might be a cleaner install. Has anyone used it with any luck?

Kirk, I have a plug in the pan I can use for my temp sender.

I also researched coolers this winter. I decided on Hardins set-up. So far, it seems to work well.

Offthefront,
My diagram that I received with my unit matches the url you posted.. That is the way it was installed, only thing was the inlet was at the bottom. I mounted it upside down.

As far as I can tell, I beleive the thermostat was partial opening and not forcing all the oil thru the cooler, hence high oil temps and slow warm up. But the thermostat work very nicely in the boiling water on the stove.. and operated at the correct temps..

Kieth E. are you listening..

Yeah Vinny... need to keep thinking about all this.. Actually it was my buddy that came up with the idea of the water flow.. Just have to figure it out now.. I will add that one to my list of things to get developed.. LOL
