Can anyone out there recomend someone that knows what they are doing to work on trs merctrans transmissions.

Here's another one: Kirk at KC Marine (360) 738-3100 or (360) 739-3936 or www.kcmarinetr.com. I just rebuilt mine 2 weeks ago with parts and info from him. He will also repair yours or exchange for a rebuilt unit if you are in a big hurry.
