I have just installed new engines. Fired right up. You could hear the lifter build up, but had no oil pressure on gauge. I pulled the sending unit and switch to a mechanical guage. Still no presure. I think I have oil presure from how the engine sounds, but I don't like to wish.
How should the remote oil filter and oil cooler be plumbed?

no pressure on both engines? is there oil in the bilge? I have seen oil gallery plugs left out, oil pickup not installed etc.
pull distributor and using an oil pump primer tool (available at some parts houses and all speed shops) and an electric drill see if you can make oil pressure.
BTW, i would recommend using this tool prior to starting any new engine,

I left a gallery plug out and had oil pressure until all the oil pumped in to the bilge
I even had it on a primer pump and could not hear the oil squirting out the side of the block. I guess years of listioning to open exhaust and loud engines.
Did you weld the pickup on the oil pump, if not my guess would be pickup fell off or related.
