Raising Prop on Bravo 1
I imagine there is no easy way to do this, but what are the options/costs to raise the prop a little higher in the water on a Bravo 1?
Obviously you can raise the entire engine/drive, but I would assume this would require a new transom?
What about different lower units? What's available?
thanks

IMCO makes 1",2" and 3" shorter lowers,
the bravo shop makes a 2" shorter lower,
Max works makes a short lower,
and Mercury make a 2" shorter sportmaster.
Those are the one's I know of.

Re: Raising Prop on Bravo 1
What can one gain or loose? New here! Trying to learn setup. Please pardon my stupidity. Height and outside diameter of props puzzle me.The basics I understand but there seems to be so much more to l need to learn.
A bit about myself. I used to get my rush from a shifter-kart racing but unfortunately I fell from a ladder and cant race so I decided to tame it down a bit and get back into boating. The plus is I can take my wife but the damn thing is not fast enough!!

Many factory boats are set up with the prop deeper than it needs to be. Having the prop deeper will help with bow lift. When you add more hp, you get more thrust and lift. You don't need the prop as deep for the same lift. If you raise the prop, you usually gain a few mph.
If you raise it too high, you loose your bow lift and increase your prop slip%.

Yes, I'm trying to learn this stuff as well. As an extension of what the previous poster said (all true), in my case it's an older boat ('93) that was built around older prop designs that really required the prop to run deeper. From what I'm told, newer props can run a lot better higher up. In my case I'm at least 2 inches lower than I probably should be.

Anyone else have anything on this? Am I correct regarding the transom?
Which one of those lower units would be most cost effective. I haven't had much luck finding prices, what else is required. I assume another vertical shaft is needed? What else?
I'm kind of trying to get a ball park on what it would cost to do the entire job. This is definately a low buck project ($20k boat - $4k rebuilt engine), so I'm guessing it would be money best spent elsewhere?
thanks

Re: Raising Prop on Bravo 1
I picked up an Imco 2" shortie lower from Diamond Performance. He had the best price at the time. It made a big difference. It improved my top end and over all handeling. My boat originally had a TRS drive. I switch to a Bravo, had the transome filled and recut. Uunfortunaltly, when the Bravo was installed, it was installed a bit deeper then it should have been, about 2". I am still trying to prop it out, but it was definitly was worth the money.
