Default BW 72c creeps in neutral.

Here is the the scoop. I've got a Ski-Centurian direct drive boat. 351 and BW trans. The boat has now started to creep forward when in neutral.(obviously not a safe thing). Forward and reverse works perfect with no slippage.Shifting is as smooth as butter. After looking at marinegears.com ,it could be that the clutch plates are warped, or, possibly sticking.
Here is my question. Would draining the trans fluid, and then filling with mineral spirits, and letting the motor run in neutral only, be worthwhile for cleaning the clutches? Otherwise it will be a trans rebuild.
I appreciate any help.

Darrell.

Thank's for the responses guys. It's always worth asking for help before I go pulling things apart. I will also be sure to double check to make sure the shift linkage is in the propper detent position ( pretty sure nothing has slipped though, it's never that easy for me ).

Westcoast, I think I wll have to upgrade my membership to give you a pm. I'll try to do that tonight. I will need to have someone do a rebuild, I just have tooooo many projects right now to mess with it.
