Adjustion Rolller rockers, and clearence

You'll know if you are off a little because the enigine will idle rough and bounce all over the place. If that is the case, start over.
Good thing is that once you get them right, you are good for a while.
I generally do them 1 at a time like budz method, but I don't hesitate to do it with the covers off if I need to. If you don't rev the engine, then the oil will run down the rockers and springs and stay generally within the area of the head. It only takes a couple minutes.
Good luck. Every boat owner should know how to adjust valves.

Well I would not suggest doing it with the engines running, unless you like working in a oil mess and your boat looking like you just got it from sanford and son! If you cam is not real radical you can bring each cyl up to tdc with both valves closed back each off till you get soom lash. then tighten rocker nut 1/4 to a 1/2 turn. You can feel for lash by spinning the pushrod till you feel some drag on it. Then stop and go your 1/4 to 1/2 turn.

Exactly correct with the above. You can have them adjusted in 5 minutes if you know what you are doing...BUT...I really disagree with the 1/4 turn. If you want them rattling like a bucket full of old washers...do the 1/4 turn, but if you want them to pump up as they are suppose to do...then I suggest 1 full turn after you hit ZERO. Do a google on adjusting hydraulic lifters, or talk to "respectable" motor builders and most of them will also say 1 full turn. Your boat...your motor...do what you feel is right...but if you adjust them and then later hear this clicking noise...remember this thread.

Well if you really want to get technical you are looking for .030 to .060 preload on the lifter so if you are able to but an indicator on the rocker and you will see that about a 1/2 turn will provide the preload you want.
