Default Gil exhaust with sidemount?

I had a set of Gils installed when I had my Top-end rebuilt on my 502mag with a sidemount Whipple. It was a very tight fit for the hose which is bent enough to reduce water flow by about 20%. The restriction is causing the manifold to run a good 20-30 degrees hotter at idle compared to the other manifold. I don't want to chance running the boat hard until I figure out how to remove the restriction. Has anyone else run this combo? Can I just cut the hose an inch out and jam a 90 elbow in there? Thanks in advance.
