I have to respectfully disagree. I've spent thousands of hours answering questions for people on here- and most of them are new guys. The old salts don't ask that many questions. At the same time, I've learned volumes from this site as well.
The common mistake many new guys make is that the friendly banter translates to them. Guys that stumble in here and think they're "one of the guys" are often crushed like bugs. Others that come in with a strong awareness that nobody knows them yet and that come across with an attitude of "I'm new and I want to learn" are always treated well. There's one in particular that got into performance boating less than a year ago and we're now good friends.

I always try to share my knowledge and help people here on the OSO. I also read, listen and learn a lot here.
I don't help with problems so I can earn points, I just sincerly want to have performance boaters have fun and the minimum of problems. If I hear back that my information helped and a problem was solved it makes me feel good, but if I don't I just hope the assistance was of use and someone benefited from my input. This is really what this forum is supposed to be about.
Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar

Sunkin...I didn't mean newbies aren't treated well...Just that you can't jump right into the pool and be one of the guys like you said. No disagreement here...maybe I could've said it different...i meant as a newby don't expect to get a thousand responses from everyone here...but if you find someone with a common interest and you have the right attitude, you may strike up a friendship right away like you said you did.

Raylar - Like I said, I wasnt recommending we take on the approach of "IATN" by "earning" points. It was just an example of how another PAID forum worked. The end result was that you learned what actually fixed the problem and I thought that was a good thing. Whoever I slammed - I apologize. Maybe I should get back to anger management classes.

As to the original post, I agree whole heartedly with l f b. It would be nice to hear what actually fixed someones problem. Lots of posts with suggestions, very few with posted fixes.
PS, he's right about IATN. I have been a member there since 1995 and its probably the most comprehensive "fix" database in the world.

lookinforboats, I think the title of the thread just rubbed me wrong until I got the jest of what you're trying to say. I give a lot of advice and I'm not always right, but I'm just tryin to help out some fellow boaters.
