Default hydraulic steering question

a buddy of mine is having problems with an old scarab set up that has twin 2.5 outboards with a teleflex hydraulic set up on the moters, i am not sure of the helm because i havent tore into it yet. we have bled it multiple times.

the problem is it feels stiffer than it should and it also feels like it is ratcheting when you turn the wheel.

guys give me some ideas is the helm unit trash. were should i go after bleading it.

sounds like it's low on fluid, or the valve in the pump are failing

some of the teleflex units used an air assist cylynder that needs to be set at, atleast 20 lbs.
the helm could be shot.
another place to look is in the mid section . the 2.5's have been known to bind up on the swivel shaft due to a lack of lubrication. the salt builds around the plastic/nylon bushing and can cause tight steering. just pull the ram off the wing plate and try to move the engine.

good luck.
