JOhnson 225 1989
HI Gus goin got look at a 1989 JOhnson 225 VRO OB for my project boat....Anyone out there any have any experiences with these motors. What is the factory comperssion on these out of the crate so I can uses that as a reference??

You should see between 100 and 130
Below 100 is too weak and above 130 means carbon build up. Unless someone has pumped it up, but then fuel can be a b*tch. Most of the parts are still available and they run pretty good. If it has been sitting, plan on carb rebuilds(easy). If it has the old style VRO pump on it, dump it and get the new style or at least premix.
If you have any specific questions let me know-I got 2 of those things hanging on the back

HI Ted, thanks for the reply. Just did a compression check and the all read between 87 and 90 PSI....I know that is below the sugested 100 PSI lower limit. Rebuild?? or do you think in might get a season or 2 out of it?? (I know that is a tough question). I was actualy looking for a motor in the 175 to 200 HP range.....Do you think a Tired 250 might get it done??
