But the Wix is the only one with the anti-drainback valve IIRC; preventing dry start up.

In the fuel filters too?

If you're thinking of replacing with a cheap fram filter, do yourself a favor and just bypass the thing. If their fuel filters are anything like their oil filters, they're pure junk.

You're talking about saving $25 on a $25,000 motor... it's not worth it.

Do you mean AC Delco filters in a Mercury Marine box ? :)

I just cut open a Fram HP-4 racing filter. Looked like a well made filter to me. I will save this HP-4 and cut open a Wix and compare them. Doug

I cut the merc filter to inspect & the glue on the pleated seams had came apart , so it would have been getting to some extent unfilterd fuel . the pleats were not even overlapped they were butted together & glued

Sorry about my comment on the micron sizing , I was mislead ...

the way i gather it is the filter will trap down to a 4 size micron spec of dirt, with that being said fram will trap a 10 micton piece of dirt..4 is smaller then 10 so i would have to say wrong...

read and look at the chart..

Which filter are you guys referring to? Little metal one on back of intake or the screw on fuel/water seperator?
