Great, I will keep using the 15/40 Amsoil.

I would compare the filter media of the K&N to the Amsoil EAO series. I did a lot of research when I bought my boat a couple of years ago. I looked at K&N, Mobil 1 Synthetic, WIX, Fram, Donaldson (Amsoil) etc. The filter media in the Donaldson filters is the best I could find. The fibers are very fine and uniform so you have more open area per square inch verses a cellulose fiber as in the K&N, WIX etc. The high uniformity also allows for better filtration of small particles. I personally use the EAO76 filter on my 522, almost 2qt capacity, no flow restriction whatsoever. Can't tell if the oil comes out cleaner then it went in.

I have been using the Ea024, I will have to look into that filter. I have plenty of room for a longer filter.

I switched over to Torco SR-1 oil for that same reason.

The EAO76 will be great for you, providing you have enough room. No reason not to have extra filter media, along with adding extra oil to the system!

What about the straight 40 weight Royal Purple????

Thanks for the update

Thanks for the update. I ran M1 15-50 in my engines for 250+ hrs. since new. Switched to M1 V twin last year and saw an impovment in oil pressure, not that it was any lower than new, across the board hot or cold, still no leaks, noises, or oil loss between changes.

Lots has changed in oil technology and most for the worst with newer oils having an SN rating. They took the ZDDP out of oils to protect catalytic converters. This oil is not for boats period.

Boats need an SL rated oil...and not "SN" "SL"...and so on.

Strictly "SL"

Mobil-1 10W-40 Motorcycle and 20W-50 V-Twin

I looked at the Mobil 1 web site

http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...s/Mobil_1.aspx

Mobil 1 15W50 is API rated SN/SL Is it ok because they say SL or not ok because they also say SN?

Mobil 1 20W50 V Twin is API rated SH, SG/CF, CD. SL is not mentioned.

Mobil 1 4T 10W40 Motorcycle racing oil is API rated SM, SJ, SH/CF, JASO MA. SL is not mentioned.

Clarify please.

Talked to the guys at Mobil - 1 today and they said that the 15w50 was one of the few of their oils that the zinc was not lowered or removed.... I dont know if that was BS or not but have been running it a long time with no problems .To be on the safe side I have been mixing a qt.of Lucas Syn. to the Mix for the last few years... Besides you can still get it at Walmart in 5 qt. containers for around $23.00 ... Makes for qiuck ,easy changes with an electric pump. 25 hrs and gone..
