Based on what I found in other threads the 496HO will use an AC-PF1218 which crosses to the Amsoil Donaldson EAO24. Give me your Merc part number and I will verify that this is correct. If you can tell me how much room you have below the filter, I can see if they have an oversize that will fit in it's place.

thanks Thisislivin the # on the filters is 35-86634QQ03 the filters mount on upside down .as in when to remove the filter all the oil drops out, unless you punture it first and wait 5 min , so there is plenty off room for a big filter re paul from England

The AE024 is what I have used in the past. It is much bigger than the Merc filter. I am using the AE076 this year, just found out about it. It is huge, if your engine is stock probably a overkill.

Here is the list of AMSOIL/Donaldson filters in order for the Mercury blocks.
EAO-59 shortest
EAO-25
EAO-24
EAO-76 (2qt filter)

I was just looking up part numbers today for a couple of boats. Did not know about the EAO-59. The only ones I had been using were the EAO-24 & 25. It seems like when I used the #25 I had to unbolt it from the riser when I used it on the relocator that points down. If it points up you can use the #24. I always like to use the biggest filter possible. The #76 should work the best if you have the room, thanks for the tip. We should get some measurements and post them for reference.

The EA0-52 is the one that replaces WIX 51069R, and the Merc Racing 35-881126k01 This is also the best "sized" one to use on the 496, 525, etc...

The 52 is not correct. That is a Duramax Diesel filter with a much different pressure valve inside of it.

You should prob let their tech people know. I got this number from 3 different people at AMS Oil.

That's frustrating.

When I was searching out the EAO76 filter for my boat I went to the WIX site and looked up all the filters that would fit a BBC and then went to the Donaldson site and crossed them to Donaldson and checked the specifications of each filter to make sure it was right. Being an Engineer, you always check the source documentation. I had to do the same for my fuel filter the original didn't have a part number or manufacturers name on it so I had to go by dimensions and requirements. I ended up finding an awesome 1qt offroad diesel filter / water seperator good for 10 microns and 15GPM.
