Default 800 holley or 1050 dominator

Could I expect a performance increase and if yes, how much could I expect if I replace my 800 holleys and dart intakes with a 1050 dominator and victor manifolds on a twin 502 hp daytona cat? Do the dominators idle as well as the 4150 series holleys? Thanks for any imput. Doug

1050 Dominators are too much carb for that engine, been there done that and your idle will really suffer. The 502 I had that carb on (dart intake) made 600-625hp. My Dominator was sent to Dean Nickerson 3 seperate times and it still wasn't right. Not Dean's fault, the motor was just over carbed. Oh yeah I forgot to mention the fouled out plugs almost every time I went out...

I replaced a 1050/dart manifold with an 830HP/Merlin manifold on a mildly modified 502. The difference in top end power was hardly noticeable and there is no more black soot on the transom or fouled out plugs at idle. I think the only time a 1050 would be a better choice is if you were turning very high rpm's. (well over 6000)

I agree,,, I think the 1,000 would be way to much

Thanks for the imput. I will work with the 800's. I knew the experience of the board would shine through. Doug

There is a formula for determining the carb cfm that will be the most efficient for the CID at the desired RPM. Without going into too much detail the carb that would be most efficient on a 502 for a max RPM of 5200 would be 750 cfm.; 800 cfm for 5500; and 850 cfm for 5800. It all has to do with the volume of gasses (air/gas mix) that a set # of CI's will pass at any given RPM. --- Jer
