Yes that is one of our HO600 engines in SDFevers little 27!

Yes, that's another meaningful saying. It's a pitty there are such a few wise men.

Here's another one for you "The older I get the dumber I get"

Best Regards,

Whats the point of spending all that money and work on putting on a blower and then having to baby it so it don`t blow up?
I`d rather have a reliable package that I could use

That's been my entire point every time we have this debate. Yes, you can run a blower or PC and have it live; of course.

But who the heck wants to spend all that money and then see very minimum wot time? Maybe I'm different..

Also, there are guys who have run this stuff and did fine. They are also guys who would NEVER run like I do. The one guy who posted that he ran it 200 hours for 5 years and no problems???

Geez, he may as well not own a boat in my way of thinking. 200 hours is half of a long summer. And I guarantee you he's not running above 4500 for very much of that stated 200 hours. People leave out lots of variables that matter more or less depending on who you are. If you ask enough people, you'll find someone to agree with you. That is stupid. Better to talk to someone who has blown chit up and ask them. That's how you learn from other's mistakes and not your own.

You can pull a 30 foot boat with a small SUV as well and some guys do but would you recommend it?

Upgrade the 496 properly or just sell it and start over and it's a tough call on which one is better.

I'm that guy.... 200 hrs may be half a summer where you live... but in upstate NY 50hrs is ALOT for one summers use..... as far as being stupid.... I've talked to a whole lot more boat owners that have been ripped off by wanna be engine builders then I have guys that had problems with prochargers.... my guess is you spent about 4 times on your HO600 then I did my procharger .... I never had a problem.... hope you never do either.... but don't call me stupid!

As far as blowing up chit.... I raced ModVP boats all through the 1980's..... I've blown up my fair share of chit.....

Not at all calling "you" stupid. Please read again. Does not matter where you live. The point is that's roughly 40 hours per year on your engine. That's like running your boat for one week out of the year and putting it away. So that point was only to say it's not seeing much run time so it may not be a good comparator to other guys using PC's. It's not much of a sample, if you will..

Regarding my "stupid" comment, it was calling the very idea of asking "until you find someone" to agree. It happens on forums all the time. Example: 10 people say something does not work but one or two say it's fine. If you keep going until you find the one or two is it still a good idea? That was my only point (provided that you have reasonable sources).

I don't know you or anything about you. I have no issues with anyone on this site personally and my etiquette is usually above calling someone stupid in writing.

Sorry that you misunderstood - Cheers!

Not sure where this number came from but I'll be honest in the event that maybe one person reading is interested in the price of the 600.

First, the pro-charger that I priced out was around 11 to 12K after all incidentals considered. I'm sure they obviously vary in pricing.

My expenses for the 600:

Approx $19,860

This does not include my custom engine mount & some minor other expenses that tend to add up.

Yes it's lot more than pro charger in the box but then again is it??

keep in mind that most guys would not go or would not WANT to go as far with it as I did in terms of asthetics etc..

Yes, I'm buried in it. LOL

You can get a 600 running nicely for less than i spent.

Thanks for the replys SDFever.... I should have explained that its not that I don;t want to boat more... but in Upstate NY right now its 30 degrees the lakes are hard as... well ICE! We get about 12 weeks of good summer boating... on the other hand we get about that for snowmobiling too! Where I live we just don;t get the weather long enough to use the boats... We have alot of 10-15 yr old boats around here with under 200 hours on them! I know it seems like a waste.. but boating is fun even in limited doses.... I spent under $5000 complete on my procharger new... not sure which one you priced at 11-12K... but the SCm1 is selling now for around 4200 I believe... thats the little 3.5lb model.... I agree that if you qre goiong to run hard you should have a good base... better then the 496's.... but a 496 Mag with a 3.5lb procharger works... and works well.... now... having shed praise on the procharger.... I did have a 598ci naturally aspirated motor built for my boat to replace the 496.... and I do understand your comment "yes I'm buried in it" lol....

again thanks for clarrifying my misinterpretation of the "stupid" comment....

Wink Reality Check Time!

Not sure I would say you guys are buried at especially you Jason at $19K for fully blueprinted, all forged internals, header equipped, freshwater cooled and beautifully accessorized 650HP EFI marine performance engine . I think a good reality check would be to call for Example Teague, Ilmor, Mercury Racing, Cobra, Young, Haxby, ETC., ETC. and ask them for a current quote on a complete comparable 600HP + EFI engine from any of them and I believe your ears are gonna hear numbers like $40K, $50K, $60K and figures in that general area. Buy at those numbers, put it in your boat and then you might justify saying you are buried! At $19K you're doing just fine!

Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar
