Default 496 Exhaust Change - From Dana to CMI

How have you migrated from a stock exhaust system or Dana Kit to CMI Sport Tubes?

Would like some pictures as well as info. Currently, oil filter and power steering tank are in or very near the stock locations.

I'd really like some pics of the adapter brackets that CMI sends with the sport tubes. I did not buy them from CMI and there are no pics on the net that I could find so I'm in the dark.

The only pic on CMI looks like the power steering tank has to be elevated a few inches (just enough to not be able to use stock hoses)

Powerboat had a tech feature a few years back showing Teague's son installing a set on a 496. Was very detailed. Maybe someone has the issue and can scan it for you if you don't have it.

Thumbs up Pictures

I didn't get much response on this request for help but managed to do the install with not a lot of problems.

Oil filter bracket does not wind up in a good spot. Ps tank does not fit although the bracket is made to mount it. Oil filter lines can be reused but I will eventually make my own and get rid of the funky routing etc.

Overall, I guess the bling is pretty cool.

There are weird pieces of metal in the CMI hardware kit that seem to go nowhere.. I dunno.

Huge thanks to Keith (KR1276) !!

Chris,

There is no such thing as an exhaust kit that makes a 496 boat go any faster on its own. The stock kit flows nicely for what it is and in my opinion is one of the nicest stock marine exhaust systems I've ever seen on a V-8.

My CMI venture was forced on me by total frustration with another marine exhaust vendor. I got fed up with bs and bought a set of headers (mostly because kr1276 made me a great deal).

Bling is nice I think; no speed gains and nothing was expected.

That came out really nice! I am glad you posted up some pics to see. With the angle of the pipes, I find it hard to believe you had a water problem. Glad it all worked out!

SD, What actaully happened with the Dana's? Did the risers start leaking? Not trying to stir the pot about the vender just curious about what failed.
