Of course not merc is over priced on everything - I know that since I have bought marine parts for 25 years and running. But I also know what is good and what is bad. I have no experience with the GLM Circ pumps and a lot times price does dictate quality was my point.

I will bet you that I have more experience with GLM other parts and most other marine suppliers than you can think of in your life time. Over 12,000 boats have been serviced thru my shop 100% successfully thru out 25 years so I think some of the statements I make can hold water.

All marine quality of parts IMO are not as good as they use to be period. If I had the choice - if Mallory marine was still around - I would buy their version of parts for any Mercruiser. They really had some good marine parts to offer. Sierra bought them out so Mallory marine is no longer. GLM might have a great pump here but a lot times quality does have it price. Again for that price makes me wonder how can they offer it that cheap.

Also if you were to ask any marine wholesale distributor who had GLM parts that sold to dealers only why they dropped GLM - the number one answer was quality issue's. If you were in the business of dealing with thousands and thousands of marine parts yearly then you would know that. I am passing on what I know thought out the industry.

Quote: Ok .So lets all dump on Mercury ...Wonder how the boating industry would be if they had never been involved .Or how would it be now if they bailed .Most performance boats don't take long to burn 200.00 worth of gas ...........the retail of a pump......Get a grip
I don't think anyone is dumping on Mercury. They have contributed greatly to the marine industry, however they charge way too much for certain items that "they" didn't even engineer!

So you've done 12,000 boats with 100% success...Pretty strong statement ...I guess I need to drive to Texas to have my boat worked on. What is the name of your business?

25 years in business - strong years 800 boats per year like clock work - since 2008 the numbers have dropped plus hiring good techs today is impossible. last year was about 250 serviced boats. I will most likely work on 200 boats this year by myself if that plus I have down sized hugely. I have one part timer now and that's it plus myself. Low lake levels has forced me into a lot of mobile repairs. I provide a lot of dealer services like flow and clean fuel injectors along with dealer part sales as I am changing directions.

No bold statements here the #'s are -12k service boats for 25 years is less than 500 boats per year. I had some good employees over the years but like every where employees of today are hard to come by. last 2 years mainly its just myself.

I'm not doubting the number of boats your shop has worked on through 25 years .The fact you say 100% success is amazing .I've never heard of any shop that has a perfect score .Congratulations, your shop is the best in the country

Never said we did not have comebacks of course everyone makes mistakes and even new parts fail in short order. My statement was after the fact.

As with repairing anything the deal was try to limit mistakes before they left the door . I say limit them not completely. Again my statement was after the fact not saying anything about being the latest greatest nor every boat was a complete fix the first shot at it.

My real point was about how many marine parts based on an average of boats per year over 25 years that has ran thru my hands new and used as persay someone who buys maybe 0 to 15 parts a year.

I was not bringing up a fact of what and who is the best at whatever nor never mentioned about being the best as you took my post totally the wrong way.
