I think this would be a good poll. I'd like to see if I run a lot less than everyone else. I could be way off from the norm but never seen any issues. I've never run more than 80psi on anything even under full steam. Mid 7000rpm's even, That was not a boat though.

Yikes. Especially those idle pressures. Did I say 'Holy Schit' yet ?
Nothing I've ever been in has ran that kinda pressure hot. Every black motor I've ever seen has been in the 40 psi range idling.

Mine are 90ish cold at 3000rpm. Once warmed up around 75psi at 3000-WOT.. Hot idle, about 50-55psi. After an extremely hard run, they may dip into the 40's while in gear at idle. Soon as i pull out of gear theyll sit at 50-55psi.

For what its worth every boat I`ve had the oil pressure dropped quite a bit after a hard run, my current motors set off my 20psi warning lights.
K&N breathers always leaked oil, thought my answer was the baffled Teague breathers , still leave a mess, I currently have socks over em.

I tapped my oil fill and ran a line to the flame arrestor that seemed to help quite a bit. If I were to do it all over I`d run overflow tanks.
Then again its all a band aid for bad machining and blowby.
Your foaming oil is probably the same condensation I get under the valve covers near the front.

That`s what I get for buying a heavy old Cig. If it were an awesome Fountain the load on the motors would probably be half and all them problems would be solved.

Rule of thumb. And mercury racing rule. 10lbs per 1000rpm is all that is needed. Anything else is a problem. Foaming or locked up in the heads. That is the rule. This is for a engine at temp

I can understand the pressure drops in that case but in the op's case it should not be dropping the way it is with a HV pump...

Basically all of the exact symptoms my motors have, I guess I'm overthinking the whole situation.

OK, I know SB will find a way to bust my balls, (he has a knack for that ), but I'll toss in my observations with my engine. Admittedly, I'm running a lighter oil than most of you (15W40 currently), and I am running the HV 10778C Melling pump. I usually see around 65 - 70 at idle cold, and around the same at speed. After a hard run it will drop down between 25 - 30 PSI when I pull the throttle back at idle. Blip the throttle and it will immediately jump up to 45 - 50 PSI.

If I was seeing 90 PSI I would be afraid of blowing the cover off of the oil filter!
