Running "good" without data is extremely vague. Many have bolted carbs on out of the box and they ran "good". Some feel if its not backfiring, or fouling plugs its the best!!
Holley's been making carbs for how long now? And yet theirs still people out there who feel holley engineers are morons, they need something better, and gonna do a "custom" boutique carb ..
I'd like to call some of these carb specialists, and say, "I'm willing to spend 1279 dollars on your custom 4150 holley carb (that costs 700 at summit stock), if you can guarantee my air fuel ratios will be within the specific range I specify, out of the box, if not, I get a full refund?"

Tim asked for ideas on his carburetor situation.
i gave my opinion.
I've had positive experiences with CFM and so have thousands of others.
I just don't see the harm in talking to a guy who has been at this for longer than most, is local to tim and is super to deal with.

OK, not a 700 hp engine, but a 450 hp 460 turning 5300 with a hp500 800 cfm carb - just under 2" of vacuum (1.7-1.9" depending on load, this is measured in the boat via innovate equipment). I need more carb, and I'm not near 700 hp or 6000 rpm.

I literally just got a call from a fellow boater on the bay here an hour ago, he had a 540 built last year and never dyno'd it, he ran it all last season. He pulled at the end of the year to dyno it over the winter, and they dyno'd it yesterday. It made 610hp with no changes from when it was in the boat, and when they finished tuning it, it made 690hp. Basically supporting what MT is saying here, it can seem to run good, but in fact you could be way rich, not have enough timing, and could be leaving 80hp on the table lol.
