A regular fram and hp fram are different, any high performance filter will not have built in bypass, most automotive ones do for the people who don't change oil ever when filter gets clogged up it will bypass... You have to know this...

I hope Mercruiser make the right filter, lol

A typical Chevrolet v8 has the oil filter bypass built into the bolt on oil filter adapter, thus the'Chevy' filters don't typically have a bypass in them. Obviously, the newer Gen bbc's have the bypass in the block's filter pad.

Racing filters, that I know, that have bypasses are usually pretty damn high. Most ox WIX are 18-22psi.
That's not oil pressure, that's pressure differential...is how bypass valves work.

See here:
http://www.wixfilters.com/Speciality/Racing.aspx

So yeh, if you have a low psi bypass, you can screw your motor.

Well there's (in bold and underlined) your answer. I would leave your engine's health in the hands of a good oil pan. Forum's can be detrimental to engines.

Ha !

Not yet. Spent Sat on the lake with a buddy, then Sunday I finally was able wrench on it for a bit. I finally remove the engine munt nuts and bolts. The rear bolts that connects the transom assembly are a PITA!!!! The god dam 1 1/4" hose that comes from the drive and least to the water pump is in the way!. Plus mine is a really "stiff" hose. almost like a hydraulic line. (Im guessing it may create a vacuum so it has to be this way so it does not collapse on it self).

After fighting it for a few hours and every type of 3/4" socket and wrench I own was out of the tool box and in the boat, I was able to remove it. So the engine is completely disconnected now. I just need a extra set of hands and eyes to lift it out.

I always just removed the hose. Impact wrench makes short work of the rear motor mount bolts. Don't lose the fiber washers and springs.
