What gen block is yours?
It's a MK IV. My 496 manifolds are the older style with the separate water rail. The clearance issues are at the water rail casting.

I'll measure the 10SI that I have in the garage. If it's even a half inch shallower front to back, I'll just order a replacement. I have the factory Prestolite on it now.

Was just pointing it out in case someone else wanted to use the info. Thanks again for the direction!

Ah, that must be it. Mine don't have the rail.

I went ahead and bought the IMCO relocation bracket that was on eBay. My alternator was working fine, and I figure it's better to just go with the easy fix. Lots of these things have popped up, and I'm happy to have found a simple solution.

Thanks for the direction everyone! That's what I love about this forum... lots of good support!

Anyone got any more advice? I bought the IMCO relocation bracket that was referenced... no joy. Fitment is even worse now.

Has anyone had any luck with running 1-wire alternators vs the 3-wire? I might be able to make a Delco 10si alternator work.

You can buy the 10si based marine alts in a 3 wire version. I run one. I would stick with the 3 wire instead of the 1 wire. Best explanation I've seen for this here http://www.madelectrical.com/electri...hreewire.shtml

I have been running 1 wire marine alternators for about 4 or 5 seasons now . No issues with them.
