It`s 2019 we have sent a space vehicles to Mars but

Morel lifter quality went to $hit
Hylift doesn`t make a .300 tall lifter
Johnson USA lifters have a gay .700 wheel and they use the excuse that they can`t put a bigger wheel in there because they can`t find a way to support it without breaking.(most probably are thieves)
Comp cams has a marine endurance lifter but only short travel. "short travel" supposedly is a gimmick since they can`t make a lifter with tolerances close enough so they shove a spacer in there and call it good. ( bad reputation)
Exel oiling bleeds of tons of oil pressure.
Crane lifters (bad reputation)
I thought about 55mm cam and .903 lifters but then I`m back to Morel and "noisy" lifters.
Solids beat the **** out of valve train.
So pretty much SOL the way I see it.

I have 300+ quiet, trouble free hours on the Morels.. can`t keep pushing them any longer thou, have no choice but to change them.

Is Gaterman still making a decent lifter? I know they used to supply for Crane, not sure anymore.

Hey ICDEDPPL what about Crower hyd rollers 66321LM-16's? Crower claims made in USA still and these have a +.300 higher link blade.
Also, I have heard whichever location/company has the original multi-million dollar test equipment would be the original and good one (Johnson?), and does the high precision machining in house. The other company buys most of the parts and really assembled them (hylift johnson?). Heck supposedly bought all that test equipment initially

Good post BTW.

It looks like Crower sells Johnson USA. Not to be confused with Johnson Hylift.

I've had good luck with the Johnson Race and Johnson Race Short travel as well as the Morel Short travel lifters over the years.

Going to be running the 903 black mamba's on some solid roller engines this year.

Got a set of used Johnson Race shorts with about 40 hours them if anyone is interested.

Ran a set of Crower hydraulic rollers in an engine two years ago and I felt they were a little loud. Not completely sold on them.

johnson makes the lifters for Crower now. I believe Morel used to make them for Crower.

As for who was the "original" johnson lifter, its pretty much irrelevant to me. I'd imagine the lifter they made 50+ years ago, is not remotely close to what they have on the shelf today. Completely different lifter, different materials, different manufacturing process, etc. It would be like saying I want to buy a new Ford Explorer, because I remember how great my grandfathers 1963 Ford Galaxy was.

I'm liftered out after read this post...........so who makes an OE style replacement drop in ( dog bone style ) lifter for the 500 EFI with reusing the stock OE pushrods..........the body is about 1/4 in longer than a 502 lifter but plunger placement seems to be the same height.

Pretty sure drop in dogbone style it’s best to stay with the GM part.
