You can use your non adjustable rocker set up, but may have to get different length pushrods if the base circle of the cam is different. If you want to swap to an adjustable setup, ARP, and Crane make a conversion kit. Those heads have a 3/8 boss for the rocker stud. I used the cam you listed in a 454 jet boat application about 15 years ago with edelbrock marine heads and just over 8.5 compression. It made 510hp, one of the comp lifters died at about 700 hours but luckily didn't hurt much. It ran factory merc manifolds for about a year, and then upgraded to Kodiak, EMI type exhaust. No reversion issues, always ran strong.

You will have to replace the rocker arms also, I like the Comp Cams stamped steel roller arms for budget builds, but a full roller rocker is more conventional. May need rocker studs as well, can't tell if you have adjustable valve train. It's definitely worth the money. If you have a heavy boat I would take about six degrees of duration @ .050 away from the cam selection for more low end torque. What size is your oil cooler?
It's a GEN VI. The oil cooler appears to be the stock one mounted low on the portside about the size of a beer can.

Thanks HaxbySpeed, this all started because I needed to replace my engine coupling just for good measure as my engine walked towards the end of last year. Now shes torn down and at the machine shop.

My bad, I couldn't see the dog bones till they were pointed out. It is a roller set-up, disregard everything I said except the rockers and increase your oil cooler size.

KB/Icon makes a super nice forged piston that has a small 18cc closed chamber dome. With a .030 over 454 and 119cc chamber they're right at 9.3:1. This is a super durable piston with some real nice features and not that expensive. Part number IC779.

I thought the 088 heads were open chamber?

They are. These pistons can work with both. (notice I quoted the compression with 119cc chambers)
