Wait, wait, wait.

You switched cams without me seeing.

You can't take boobs back..

I got a clean Gen VI standard block from my buddy because I was uncomfortable over boring my existing block another .030 over. So I am reusing the .030 over pistons and boring the replacement .030 over. The previous cam that I listed had a higher RPM range. I wanted to bring it down a notch as I was only able to spin around 5000 RPM last year. The year before last I was WOT @ 5300 but my slip was too high so I had bblades work the prop over to drop 300 RPM and gain 6 MPH.

Rectangle port heads on a 454 really need to be spun up a little higher to make the most of the combination. Although I didn't see it mentioned here I am assuming this motor is going into the 22 foot Formula in your signature? If so, you don't need a lot of torque with a 454 in a 22 foot boat. Cam it a bit more and let it rev a little higher.

Yes, it's going into the Formula. What's the safest I can spun her up to? It sounds like I would have to re prop to loosen it up a bit.

I wouldn't hesitate to spin a forged bottom end 454 to 5600 RPM. What was the engine like that spun to 5000 RPM last year? If you are going to make more power with this setup you may just be able to carry the prop currently on the boat to your target RPM.
