I was thinking it was castrol oil oil when I was a kid , very distinctive smell . Who knows that was a loong time ago and its tough enough to remember this mornings breakfast.

One time, long story, but i accidentally put rotella 15w40, in my 2 stroke snowmobiles oil reservoir. It did NOT smell good. After about 20-30 miles, my buddy mentioned he saw some flames coming out of my exhaust under the belly pan. It then dawned on me what i did.

Note to self. Never fill a empty 1 gallon polaris oil jug, with leftover fresh rotella you had from a 5 gallon pail. Youll forget you did that, and think its actually polaris 2 stroke oil in the jug.
