Keith Eickert mechanical fuel pump issues
#21
Also, use a relay to send power to the pump from the ignition. 10 gauge from battery, 10 gauge to the pump, purple wire from ignition, 10 guage ground. I use a pressure switch to ground the relay.
Also, you need to use the same size hose or bigger (preferably) for the return line.

We ran into this same issue at the beginning of the year with brand new apex fuel pumps and the KE upgrade. 5psi at idle and would never recover. switched back to the carter pumps and KE upgrades. back to 9PSI at idle and never drops below 7psi. 509ci- 675hp

GS42, can you post up a link to the pump you bought? I've been looking at I think the same pumps.
BBYSTWY, let me know if you want to sell a KE head, I've been looking at buying the same head.
I've also been looking at these Holleys, anybody have any feedback on them?

I am having trouble posting the ebay item number, and link for the unit I purchased. Here is the part number and it brings up the ad:
I was a little leery because of the price. I have been thinking about buying a spare pump assembly for the last couple years, because they don't come up often, and I knew how expensive they are new. I would see them pop up occasionally used for $400.00. I called and talked with the guy. He told me about the construction and what he does to them. I have been using it all summer and I am happy with it. It works great. I bought a new pump, made in the USA, and saved money.

Sorry guys been away working on the boat....so what I did is replaced this pump with a quickfuel 30-175qft...it is an electric pump with the regulator built in that can be run in bypass or dead head mode...I ran it in dead head mode with no return set to 8 psi and it doesn't fluctuate at all off of 8 psi..very nice pump
Mohav...yea I would sell the KE if you're interested PM me

I would eventually bypass it to the filter head. I ran my Mallory 140's dead headed for 10 years with no issues, just a brush rebuild here and there. I bypassed them a few years ago and it is just easier on the pump and lower amp draw.
My $0.02

Well, I went the KE route on a brand new Airtex top and the thing won’t even prime. Looks like I’ll be putting the cheap Holley back on. Pretty but worthless.
