Got it.
Most all marine engines are carbed, so how do they run ?

Yes, sir .I got a set of .903 morels hydraulic.
I`m not willing to spend a weekend pulling exhaust and checking lash.
we've dyno'd a few motors,we watch egt's and afr's,we play w/ the timing till the egt's come down and I can tell you,28-30° of timing and the egt's are hot(you have to much fuel, blow torch on the exhaust valve)better have super alloy from ferrea.we one time added 1° of timing to a whipple new style 496 and picked up 79hp and egt's came way down.those motors lived in a 47 excaliper for a few years,,till we built way bigger power plants.
so,dyno at least 1 of the engines and see what your engine wants for timing.

What is his setup? Similiar to mine? I almost feel like ever since I got Whipples Ive had issues. I never burned down a motor with the roots blowers.
I know he`s right .
I was just fighting it because i have so much to do before summer converting to port would be another thing on my plate.
I realized today (after my engine builder called said i need all new rods and upgrading to shaft rockers would be a good idea) (nice idea but it`s a $4k idea) I can`t financially or mentally do this again all in one year so I will be taking the summer off.
I`ll do one engine this year , the other next year.
That gives me time to figure out port injection. The whipple needs 50% of fuel to run thru it still so there will be some figuring out and tuning.

we custom built our manifolds(it sucked) buy now whipple has been making that design for awhile.it cured the fuel and air distribution problem.

here is a link to another site that has pics on page 17 of the thread of how I took the existing manifold and made it port injection. If you can machine yours you can save money instead of buying a new one from Whipple.
Boatfreaks

The difference between blowers is the roots blower opening on the underside is completely open. The Whipple compresses air to a smaller V shaped opening in the front. The Whipple runs cooler and makes more power. You dont have to run 50% fuel through the Whipple. Send them to Whipple or Jon Bond Performance to change the clearance to run them dry. Very easy to do. Just trying to help, i know it can be frustrating.

Dennis from Whipple is the one who said 50% fuel, not sure why he didn`t mention looser clearance. I would think that would make the blower less efficient.
I`ll read the thread. thanx

I have the 8.3 whipple , you have the 4liter? Might make a difference wet vs dry .

Because I have regular rods and not the power adder rods. Well I`ve never broken a rod so..
at the end of the day they are from 2015 so I guess it`s time to upgrade, a couple were damaged from the detonation

Might be a good call but maybe recondition them as they’ve been good for you. An old school engine builder always liked reconditioned parts as they’ve already been though the test of power and abuse. I don’t know but if you think about it…. Makes sense. Sometimes new doesn’t mean better. Just sayin! They’ve already been stretched, abused etc. Think about it. 😂. New ones who knows these days. You have good parts keep them - just massage them a bit.
