Agreed. Cooler needs to go. I wouldn’t chance it.

Update. I tore the motor down today. Cam was not the problem. I spun rod bearings on 2 and 4. Mains didn’t look great either but rod bearings are shot. So, machine shop time to see if the crank can be saved. Full on rebuild at this point. I’ll also have to pull and check other engine after what I just pulled out of this one.

have to run more bearing clearance in a marine application, where were they set if you know

I don’t know where the clearances were prior. First time I’ve been into the bottom end of it. Explains everything though. Metal shavings and hot oil. As soon as I put some rpm’s to it, it was eating 2 rod bearings. My wife said “ just fix it” so, it shall be done.

Disregard any earlier post about saving anything oil related. We’re no longer talking about fine shavings and dust. The oil pan and pickup tube had chunks in it. It’s all getting replaced at this point.
