Trying to get a little more power out of my 572

My O2 is that with a full race porting and polishing along with a set of CMI swept backs or split tubes, different hyd. roller cam (need more info on what you have to know for sure) and a good dyno session you could probably get 700-710 in the 5600 range but that would be about it. I doubt you have much port work done based on the HP level given. Raising your compression to 9.2 will net you 10-15 hp......which will probably not even be noticable in your boat. If you really want that much HP, buy a new style whipple with the intercooler in the intake and PAY somebody to dyno test it for you.

Wil,
Stock bottom end being all factory parts in the bottom end. Nothing is balanced and the rods are stock. It can't handle anything more than say 5800 rpm's without becomming swiss cheese.
You have a 572" which is not stock, so I am sure that your engine builder had all the parts matched and balanced? You shouldn't have a problem with that stuff.
Panther.

( CMC ) Compition Marine Center
Wil Ros,
Have you talked to Chip yet at CMC?
I have a friend that had some 588's
built by them around 900hp.
I have heard nothing but great things
by these guys.
Every thing is done in house.
Machine work, dyno work rigging and
re-rigging. Fiberglass work, paint work.
And this is all hi end, skaters etc.
Last week I talked to them about some
other issues and in brief conversation.
It was mentioned they are starting to
do engines for Marine Technologies ( MTI )
Maybe you have seen Rare Breed if your
not familiar with MTI's boats.
As far as the above don't quote me
word for word and I'm not quoting them.
Alot of information was passed in a short time.
But I do have a quote from them on a 572
putting out 700 hp at 5200-5400 rpm WOT
740Lbs/Ft at 4600rpm.
Realistically he said 740 hp, but likes
to keep things conservative.
Now per our last conversation I was told
they are now making 760 hp with the same
package by a few tweaks here and there.

Hi wil ros,
A 572 is a large displacement. Your heads, even ported, will have a time keeping up-it's like running part throtle. Try a set of CNC 357's by Air Flow Research and you will not be dissappointed.
There is no practical camshaft or compression ratio that will get the results you want. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link
Also, Ambusher has a handle on the lifter situation. I've used them all and Isky is the only one I have never broken in a solid roller!!!

Isky's huh ? I almost went with them but at about the time I was going to order my buddies girlfriend broke one in her boat.
I also had a talk with another friend who was having lifter problems in a drag car (900hp SBF) with crazy spring pressures (400 on the seat and over 1000 open) and he spoke with Isky and they actually recommended either Crower or Jesel. He went with Jesel and I went with the Crower severe duty with the extra oiling option. I don't really have a valvespring problems, just the lifters.
For the record I WAS using Comp Cams lifters.

Aren't the Crane, Competition Cams, and Ultradine lifters all made by Crane anyway? Or was it Competition cams?
I ordered Ultradine lifters and they were in two boxes. The outside box was an ultradine, the inside box was a crane box.
Then the following year I ordered Comp Cams lifters and they were identical to the Crane Lifters.
Hmmmm, weird huh???
Isky makes awesome springs!!!!

I used to break Isky's all the time.. other guys in my area had good luck with them.. I gave up, went to a solid lifter cam, with more lift and duration than my roller. So far so good, but no abusive time on the combination .. YET.. next summer I will try to break it. If my drive holds up..

Uhm... I'm not a BB expert, but some ideas...
Why not going to a double smaller carb setup with longer intake ramps? Maybe this permits you to drive a harsher cam with some rougher idle. But plane could suffer.
From what I've read your problem is the torque and the Bravo drives (you don't want to kill them).
Torque is high and going up to a 572cid block only agravates it, uhm... maybe you need some research on reinforced units. Uhm... maybe an ignition box can help you to sustain a decent idle and run with some retading up to 3500-4000rpm.
