merc has a new style water pump, the improved pump has the same # as the old one but has a -1 at the end, it has a improved seal in it , Dennis Moore knows more on this maybe he can shed some light here

The merc pumps are prone to having bad seals. I had 2 go bad in 10 hrs. Not sure about the -1 improved version. Got one from CP performance 3 years ago and its still good. They get them from some outfit in NY or Mass but I didnt keep the damn box. Go with theres if you have the option. Costs less.
