Default Thermostat Replacement

I have a 1991 Mercruiser 502 Magnum Carb. Stock. One engine is running a little cooler than the other . This has been verified by a IR thermometer at thermostat housing. I think one of the thermostats is stuck open or partially open. I pulled the top cover off of the housing and tried to remove the themostat. There is a brass sleeve on top of the thermostat that appears to be stuck in place. I don't think it has been replaced in many years. Any hints on how to get the sleeve out (the thermostat is underneath it). If not, I will just yank it out, bending it and buy a new one.

Thanks!

Steve
