Answering some questions from talking to Fountain 38 today....
Leon Dereberry is working on it now... (Lake Texoma),
the sea pump has been rebuilt, the thermostat & housing replaced, bypassed the oil cooler & cool fuel (running nothing but the engine off the pump) & it still is overheating. The heads are coming off Weds to check for the correct head gaskets & cracks..... this engine only has 30 hours on it...???? go figure..!!

Unhappy 500 efi temp problems

i have a 35 motion with 500 efi motors. occasionally the port motor goes up from 150 degrees to 180 for a bit then back to 150. new thermostats were installed, new temp senders, water pressure is perfect at about 25 psi wot.every time the temp goes up i shoot the heads with a laser temp gage, and sure enough the temp is really 180. any ideas anyone?

I had a buddy with a 38 Special and last 500 EFI we had problems with had about six impellers (all in pieces) packed into the cooler on the back of the motor. Back flushing didn't find them, had to use a long screw driver with back flushing to get them out.
