This scarab Im reffering to that goes 71 on gps says on the title and on the EFI unit that its a 7.4 EFI?! From what Ive heard there were some 7.4s that recieved these typpe of efi before the vortec style were introduced. Im telling ya this thing flys, for what it appears to be. I will get the head castings to see of they are Rec. or not. Maybe someone has been in there already? Greg

I had a 89 22 ft with a SBC around 450 hp.
ran all day long at 60 and maxed out at 75GPS showing 76 speedo( hull pick up). Custom prop 3 blade was a mirage. Sold it and told the guy to use Super and or av gas(havasu) 1 week later he calls and said he blow it up. He ran cheap gas and only held it wide open for 5-7 min.
I call him dummy now

Have a friend here that has that rather uncommon engine package in a 23' Lavey. (I did all I could do to get him to spring for the Mag. when he ordered but he wouldn't spend the bucks) It also runs surprisingly well. We have seen it nudge to 70 on my handheld GPS on just the right day and a slight tailwind. --- Jer

Ok.......I'm the guy HPJunkie is talking about. I'm currently running a 96' 7.4LX mpi / 330 hp. It runs 71 on Gps and radar with a worked 25 p Mirage. Seems to run awfully strong for what it is? The boat handles fantastic and have shocked a lot of people I've raced. I will have my new 502/415 MPI motor in by next week with the help of HPJunkie. A 85hp gain. I just hope it rips hard!!!

I had a 96 22ft scarab with a 454MPI (330HP). It had a 25P, 3 blade Mirage prop. The best I saw was 69.1mph/gps. More typical was 65-67mph. Motor would occasionally bump the rev limiter somewhere between 4600-4800rpms. My boating is in the big lakes of the Great lakes. Cool water and usually cool air. Use to loose 3-4 mph due to heat and humidity. Mirage prop did not like to stay hooked up on hard turns. Use to water ski with the boat. It could pull my 220lbs out of the water and stay on plane down to 22mph. The boat had a harsh ride when the waves got over 2 or 3 feet. I think it uses a 18 degree "V" rather than the typical 22 degree.

I occasionally take mine over to Lake Michigan off Chicago or Milwaukee, and have to say this boat is way to short to run in that rough water. I generally boat in the lakes and rivers in southern and central Wisconcin and No. Illinois. A lot smoother!
