Greasing U-Joints on a Bravo1
#1
Today I pulled the lower unit off to grease the u-joints or knuckle joint (whatever it is called!) and was surprised to find no grease fittings. This Bravo 1 is mounted to a 2001 Powerquest and can only assume that the out drive is also a 2001. Is this a new thing not to have grease fittings?

Do you mean you seperated the lower unit from the upper gearcase, or did you pull the whole sterndrive from the boat ? You must pull the sterndrive from the boat and you will find the u-joint ( unless newer Bravo doesnt use greasable U-joint ? ) Mine does, its an 89. If you did split the case halves , you MUST replace both O- rings. Seloc has a good book on maintanance and service procedures. JW 454.

Merc calls the u-joints without fittings Permalube U-joints. They have orange/red seal covers. You might be able to remove the plug and screw in grease fittings. The plug should unscrew w/ pliers or small vise grips.
