Wow is this ever an old thread. I'm still around under a new name. I'll try to answer questions if my mind is still clear enough to remember stoff from 04.

I run a Hynautic K5-B system on my boat, howevere just the rams. I added a charlynn helm to the tune of 145 CC's and it works very well, and it is as beefy as any other top brand name system out there, The best part is I did a full hydrualic twin ram set up for less than $ 1,000.00 buck and it works flawlessly

Good to hear Gary
Ok so hear is the deal..I know very little about Hyd steering but I bought an older boat with Hynautic..I can see that it is Full hydraulic to the helm and it has the reservoir with sight glass and pressure gauge...Now one of my questions are...Since it has been sitting for a year hooked up and doesn't want to move what should I do first ?..How do I fill the reservoir with fluid and what fluid do I use ? I have read that this system is fairly hard to turn unless your moving but it feels stuck..I don't want to break anything by forcing it...Thanks for any info you have.

Do you use a helm pump or does you charlynn run off of your powersteering pump?

I bought some Marine Machine rams off of ebay and haven't decided wether I was going to a hydraulic helm or a hynautic helm pump, I have friends that run both. I actually like my friends steering that uses the hynautic helm pump. I think it is 2.4 cu/in per revolution. Or a Capilano helm pump.

These would have helped someone put together a nice system, rather inexpensively.

It is run off of my Power steering pump...I sugest full power, the capillano is great for outboards but a little stiff for the use of I/O applications

I'm assuming this is not power assisted.
The resrvior is filled by unscrewing the plug with the shrader valve (air fitting) in it. You need to presurize the system in order to get it to initially get fluid in there. 15-20psi should do it.
The fluid I used was from Hynautic. I'm guessing someone must still stock it or a replacement.
If it's stuck, find out why. Are the drives frozen, the rams, the helm unit.
Disconnect stuff and find out what's not moving. Then clean, replace, or rebuild the problem parts.

Correct not power assist

I am going to tear into this week some time...Thanks for the info..Do you know who might carry parts ?

No idea who has parts.
Search the internet. There are quite a few of those setups on inbord cruisers, so I assume they're still available.
