Help With Buddies New Power Quest Prop Size
#12
One other thing - I had a 99 280 with a 502, so I do have a bit of experience - if the boat is new, I'm betting the motor is tight. I was definitely disappointed with mine at first, high 50's was all I was seeing. Following the recommended break-in procedure and playing with the trim, a month later I saw 65 mph all day every day. 24p Bravo 4 blade, stock.
I would leave the trim at neutral, run it up to WOT, then just blip the trim control and watch the tach and speedo (or GPS) for the results. I found the trim gauge to be questionable at best - not very linear and seemed to lag the actual drive position. 280 PQ's seem to be very consistent - there are at least 4 guys (me, BillR, hp500efi, scheuer10, Bob280Silencer, maybe more) on this board that have had them, and all of them run within 1-2 mph with the 502.
Good luck, and tell your buddy to be patient!
