Default Polishing the lower unit on Speedmaster IIs

This summer when I took the boat out some of the paint on the lowers flaked off. When I started chipping away at it I found out that part of it was actually something like bondo. The bondo was covering the whole front of the crescent. I wanted to take the rest of the bondo off and polish the lowers, but when I started chipping away at it I found out that the aluminum filler piece on the top of the crescent (see picture) is wider than the case. So to polish it I would have to fill the gap to make the surfaces even (see blue arrow). Can anybody give me in site on how to polish this section of the drive?

Thanks
Pat

I "polished" some #3's... then put a "fish scale" pattern on them... it lasted about 1 season before going dull and grey... save yourself the time and effort.... I'd clean them and repaint them myself.....
