I see, thanx for the clarification. D you think I can use that crane for my setup without removing the carb and intake?

I made up a swing set out of 12' 4x4's with 2 2x8's across the top. Hung a chain fall from that. I was able to lift the engine about 7 feet off the ground at the bottom of the oil pan.

I don't see why it would not work. You have less driveway to deck than I had and a smaller overall engine height. I would measure how much lower you can get the back of the boat by letting some air out of the tires just to get a better idea of "fudge factor". Good luck.

July 4th weekend about 8 years ago we pulled an engine out of the Cig in a field to replace the tranny. Did it with a cherry picker mounted on back of a small 3/4 ton flatbed. We had to block up the side of the truck so it did not tilt.

3 hours later we are back boating. It pays to have lots of buddies and losts of spare parts.

Do the redneck way and build your kids a new swing set from wood, just build it tall so you can use it to pull your boat engines.

I used a chain fall. Rented some scaffold to shape of a "U". Used scaffold one atop the other. Than placed a couple of 4x4 on top of scaffold and attached chain fall. when engine is lifted out ,drive the trailer away and set motor on stand. Scaffold rents real cheap. Did'nt need no stinkin tree.

I have one just like that... except I've lengthened the upright section so that it is two feet taller.

Harbor Freight occaisonally has that 2 Ton hoist on sale in their stores (no shipping charges) for $149.99. It's a steal at that price. I've mentioned in another thread that I've used it to pull and install a couple of automotive engines/transaxles. It worked great. There's a big knob on the 8 Ton ram that really allows you to control the lowering of the unit. HF also sells a complete rolling gantry/trolley setup, but it's not quite wide enough for all boats. A cheap alternative is to buy the trolley separately for under $100 from HF and build your own rolling gantry. For what it's worth...

Harbor Freight sale catalog just came. 2 Ton trolley (p/n40493-OYSA) is on sale for $59.99. Make up your own rolling gantry and just attach a chain fall or 2 Ton come-along.
