Old School Cigarette Cat Race boat

Re: Old School Cigarette Cat Race boat
The Halter boat had an adjustable wing which did not work. Leon Ortemond of Erath La. and I bought the boat around 1986 or so and we let it sit until Leon bought my half in 1989 and then tried numerous "things" including triple engine, huge spoiler, changing bottom , and now it has twin 1000 something or others painted loud yellow and black runs around 100 and is very loud and still can be seen in south loiuisiana and in Destin on Holidays tied up to his 50ft Cary that has all sorts of concoctions. I sold Leon his first boat a 27 ft. Martini with a 351 ford turboed in 1977 at my Wellcraft dealership Big Tiger Boat Sales on Lake ave in New Orleans where the Daquri and Creams now is next to Deanies Seafood. It did 63 mph. History...

So like always I was blessed with new boat new driver no seat time and going for the world title, you know how many times I have done that, Not fun. anyway we were leading the first 30miles until the tunnel blew out and we started sinking, top speed 97mph going with the tide, woof!!!!!!!!! woof!!!!!!!! always a pleasure Charlie, I saw the old 1978 Scarab we blew apart in Argentina, thanks for the memories, and great job.

Thanks for the real behind the scenes view of some of the drama going on at the World Championships.
Just talking with someone the other day who was saying how the boats today have to travel all over the East Coast to compete. I reminded him of the days the boats traveled all over the world and competed against the local politics too.
You were the first guy to have 25 overall wins under world wide racing schedules. Well done, a nice record for the modern day racers to shoot for.
Glad to have you as a member of HORBA...I'll be down in Florida in a couple of weeks, lets touch base.

Baloney...I was just lucky enough to be racing at the right time to meet guys like you and Richie......But never mind me, why don't you post some of your old shots in those picklefork tunnel hulls where you got your first taste of flying a boat.
Nice training ground for flying off waves later.

I just want to say what a marvellous invention this world wide web is. Years ago as a kid I would read about a number of you folks on here - thanks to technology I can now have a virtual conversation with you all - heroes in my books. The stuff dreams are made of. Please continue to share as many stories and pics as possible - before itŽs too late!!
