Nah, Steves way cool and so is his ride. Fever Mike said it correct,"Anyone & Everyone" had two years to bring up BS about Steve and not one. Through all the BS around Offshore Racing Steve has been a good friend to The Jersey Boyz. Augie

mr_velocity 12-29-2003 04:41 PM

Geeze, I said I would not accuse Steve of anything even remotely of bending the rules. However, there are parity rules and in the past they have been enforced when teams "cleaned up". I said the perception is those rules were not enforced when it comes to Steve. Am I wrong? Was weight added to the boat, was his X dimension lowered?
Steve is a great racer, not doubt about it!! But please look at how the parity rules were enforced in the past. I do believe that the imfamous Jerry was suspended after the parity police added over a 1000#s to his boat and he had made a comment about it. Again, this is just another case of lack of consistency within racing.

dhlaw 12-29-2003 05:42 PM

Hey, nobody is making accusations that Steve is doing anything wrong. The bottom line is that if you want to make this sport a true "Professional" sport then it needs to have a "Professional" appearance. I am sorry but a member of the governing body racing and dominating doesnt look good, irrespective of Steve's integrity (which IS NOT being called into question here). Questioning this issue and some other financial issues is fair game and reasonable responses dispel myths and settle differences.

boatme 12-29-2003 06:43 PM

Hey Brett,,
you still sending the cover ??????

mr_velocity 12-29-2003 07:45 PM

Come on Mike, I did not imply anything. The sport has a very bad perception and this just adds to it. If you want the sport to grow you need to remove any conflicts of interest.

Please don't say that I think that Steve did something wrong, he didn't.

However the perception, politics and the inconsistency of the santioning body is what will keep me from ever racing again. The boat was built to Supercat specs and we were going to run there after a year of F3, being rookies. The rules changed 1/2 way through the first season making our boat illegal for Supercat. So we are out. It will take many years of a santioning body proving they have their act together before I will ever sit in a race boat again. And yes, an officer of the sanctioning body racing is just one thing that will keep me from the sport.

I met and talked to Steve at the Sarasota races. I have yet to meet a more knowledgable person in performance boating, and he presents himself without seeming to be a know it all. He is also a story teller. You can feel his passion for racing when he speaks. There is no doubt in my mind that he is in it just for the racing and competetion, not to rule a class.

Kent Perroux 12-29-2003 10:57 PM

Fever Mike, don't you need to change that to Concept Mike? Or maybe you should pick up the Extreme, take Gary's seat and let Gary throttle for a while......

Yes, I agree consistancy is the correct formula. Have rules the majority agrees upon, and let the ref's call the shots as they fall.

JKK, thanks for posting.

Mr.V, I understand where you are coming from 100%...you never insinuated that Steve M. was anything less than a true sportsman in ANY of your posts! it's the simple fact that it's just not right (i'll add/edit this is only my personal opinion)! and if nothing less; it does not look professional...now mike a. will tell you "who will do it then?"...who will;give more time, money, EFFORT, or be as knowledgeable as he is?...while the answer may VERY WELL be... NO ONE?!!! the success of a company should not rest on the shoulders of one. nor on select individuals that possess the uncommon knowledge.

Mr.O, a few thousand and a couple of 5 dollar trophies is NOT what this thing is about! hell, testing to see how a trophy will float in salt water has cost me more $$$$$ than i would like to share here!

audacity 12-30-2003 07:03 PM

"JKK, I have heard plenty. I have said more than enough. You are right. It is time to let the chips fall where they may. I hope you and Joey are happy with the results. Mike"

Mike, the reason why i am outspoken about the sport is because i do NOT want "the chips to fall where they may"...and i don't think JK does either? but we all know where being outspoken and standing up for what you think is right gets ya in "offshore racing"???!...JK has probably been in more F2 boats and been in more races than anyone in F-class racing today?(please inform me of someone else if there is?)....JK has been chasing the rules for some time now and is your current 2003 F2 world champ...this is gotta tell something???.....

THEJOKER 12-30-2003 09:04 PM

Some great things are happening in our sport. Good news is right around the corner! BH

RLW 12-30-2003 09:18 PM

I hope you are right Mr. Hollis.
Frankly, what I have read on this board as of late, has left little to be desired in the World of Offshore Racing.

I vote no. We have too many unconfirmed rumors and third hand reports going on here. It would benefit nobody but those that want to stir the pot.

BRUCE SEROFF 12-30-2003 10:09 PM

DONT SAY IT

outer42 12-30-2003 10:35 PM

As competition directror I would like to see Steve take a very active role in a Mentorship program for the new racers and pass along some of that knowledge teaching racers how to test, what they should be accomplishing in testing, basic setup, pre-reace activities. This should be done free or at a very mininum cost. Steve should not be fixing setup problems for people rather teach them how to fix it themselves.

Just showing up with a boat does not make you a racer.

Actually, He's been doing that since 1997. I've learned alot from both Steve and Gary D. over the years. The best part is, I'm still learning. In fact, I learn every time we race-test-work-talk together. Lessons I plan on making good use of this coming season...
