Great pictures of what I feel is the one of the most scenic areas on the planet. Our family spends its summers at our lodge on Manitoulin Island (Kagawong, North Channel, just west of your route). We've been going for 50 years, now 4 generations.
Take in the Benjamins and the Channel for one of your trips- wonderful people up there!

There is a reason that some of us call Georgian Bay "god's country". I think you just got a small taste of why. :)

great pictures, thanks for sharing. That was quite a trip you took, I can't imagine the fuel $$. I just looked at the map and followed the route you must have taken. Where did you launch. Did you leave Tobermory and head across the bay back to Parry, when the trip was over. How many miles across the bay is that. Did you stay at Marinas every night, some of the places looked fairly remote. Is the Georgian Bay part of Lake Huron. You are lucky to be able to get such a large group together for a long trip like that.

I just re-read my post, so sorry for all the questions but I have always wanted to spend time doing that type of trip so my head is just full of things to ask you :D

MsP, yes G Bay is part of Huron. Its oft referred to as the sixth great lake. The west side is rugged and for the most part wide open. The east side is home to the 30,000 islands. Both beautiful in their own way. Its 20 something miles across and very deep in the middle. Huge wave with a north/north west wind in the lower east half, the same with south easterlies if your in the north side. I have seen honest 10's rolling south for mile after mile.

It is by far, one of the most amazing places to boat on earth. There are towns with marinas that serve the cruising public as well as thousands of very private anchorages. You need to have all necessary charts. Mistakes there will cost you large. Granite always wins. ask Bob the builder :).

Some info on Georgian Bay from Encyclopedia Brittanica:

"bay, northeastern arm of Lake Huron, south-central Ontario, Canada. It is sheltered from the lake by Manitoulin Island and the Bruce (or Saugeen) Peninsula. The bay is 120 miles (190 km) long and 50 miles (80 km) wide, and the depth (generally 100–300 feet [30–90 m]) reaches a maximum of 540 feet (165 m) near the Main Channel, which leads to Lake Huron. "

Airpacker, don't forget that southern Georgian Bay has the longest freshwater beach in the world. Truly an amazing body of water.
