yea it sucks...people definately were getting out of control there last summer...bunch of slobs...leaving crap all over the beach..beer cans, bottles, paper plates, fighting with each other...it was only a matter of time before they just shut it down...I don't know how many bags of trash I picked up off that island...thanks everyone that went over there that used and abused the island...now we can all just enjoy how the beach looks from our boats as we pass by...

White sands is Canadian so you will need to call in prior to anchoring. Great spot to beach up just have to watch out for all the sea weed getting in there.

I boat there every weekend and Its a pretty good turn out, never get any coastguard, police, or anything like that. Sea weed isn't all that bad unless you have a seadoo boat. Crystal Bay is just around the corner too, ID love to see it get back to how it was years ago. Cops have really laid off the last few years! I think that's why everybody quit going!

that's good...still sounds like a good place to go...use to hangout there years and years ago...but after 9-11 and needing to carry proof of citizenship and requiring to call in...I just stopped going...but now with sugar island being off limits beach options are getting limited..so it looks like the girlfriend and I will go get our enhanced licenses and do the call in when we're coming over...things use to be so simple and we all took it for granted...god I miss them days...

I am one of the sugar island regulars.... On just about any given day you could see my all white Velocity backed up to the island. We always cleaned up after ourselves, and it pisses me off that the a-hole punks ruined it for all of us. I have a 10 year old daughter and she needs a place to play, otherwise boating this summer will be quite different..... The loss of sugar has our family quite bummed out.

Is white sands open to the public? If so I will definitely deal with the immigration crap to have a beach where my daughter can play.... I enjoy our boat and don't mind rafting up, but my daughter is my number one priority so I will adapt my summer boating to suit her...

Can someone verify that white sands is open to the public? Also what is the necessary paper work for us citizens going to and from Canada? What is the proper procedure? It has been at least a decade since I had been to white sands or crystal bay....

Back to Bob-Lo Island - I've been wanting to go ashore there and check out the ruins of the amusement park. Will I get in trouble if I don't check in with Canadian Customs?

Easiest thing to do is get the nexxus card which is the trusted traveler program. You can apply on line and then have to do an interview at the US border patrol office downtown. Very easy process. I understand you have to call US customs now as well on the return trip but I am unsure of there inspection procedures. Guess it would be a good idea to contact them in the trenton office for the correct guidelines.
