I was hoping for a picture of Dollar Island. Glad you had a good time. I know all about the running out of gas in sight of the gas dock. Had to get towed to Mackinaw Island and hitch a ride to St Ignace because the gas docks were closed. You need to make the next trip up the St Mary's to the Soo locks.

I didn't venture out much from Government bay because I didn't know what I was doing and didn't want to hit anything. Navionics was a life saver on this trip, kept me out of reefs and rocks the entire trip.

With a guide that knows what they're doing I could see how the islands would be a nice place to visit and a fun time, alone with no idea what you're doing it's a little intimidating every time you look down and see rocks.

Nice trip and pics. I second the suggestion of the St. Mary's river. It is a way-cool trip.

Weather permitting, we'll be doing the North Channel in a week or two. I'll try to snap some pics.

I try to tell people, this is the most beautiful place on earth. It truly is a boaters paradise, I can be in any of three great lakes inside a couple of hours. There are more islands than you can count, two beautiful rivers and lakes that are interconnected to Lake Huron. There is truly something for everyone and some of the cleanest water on the planet. On top of that, Michigan has updated all of the marinas of the Great Lakes, even in little old DeTour the marina is the only new structure in town. Spent the day on the Cheboygan River and Mullet Lake yesterday and looking to go to Mackinaw City today. Do a Google Earth of the bay between Drummond Island and St Joseph. I highly recommend a good GPS and Depth sounder and stay in deep water. I have found boulders that were as big as houses, I've had my shallow water alarm go off in 25' of water because of giant boulders.

I have a Garmin 546S and have waypoints for just about every key point on the inland waterway and on Lake Huron. If anyone is interested let me know.
