That's a great weight! There's a big difference in weight between Bravo setups and #6's + large blowers & their intercoolers!
If you get the right props, it should run very good for the power. |
Engines Dynoed at 725 H.P. @ 5600 and 780 T.Q. @ 4000. Going to lake test tomorrow.....They told me my cams are too small. We were making almost 800H.P. , but it was stating to detonate. Had to change top pully to a slightly bigger one. Right now they are making about 5 psi. I would like more power, but even at 725 I am over powering my drives. I have to be careful as it is...
Well, we need numbers. How did it run out? Doug
My guess: 110 mph (with the correct props)?
Well I dont know if I have the correct props or not. But what I am pretty sure of is my prop shaft is way to high above the bottom. I told the boat shop I wanted it 2" above which I thought was pretty high for a bravo setup, but figured
I could always space down. Well when they cut the holes for the drives and I bolted everything up, it ended up being 3" above the bottom of the boat. Well I thought this thing is never gona get on plane like that. To my surprise this thing gets on plane stupidly easy. It almost gets on plane flat. The problem is though I have way way way to much prop slip. I used the calculator and figured im at like 30% I borrowed a 1" spacer and put that in. We'll try that tomorrow and see what that does. BTW i had on 36 pitch bravo 1 and was at 5200 and doing 85 mph. I had the 32 pitch 5 blade maximus and was basically same speed and RPM. I was not wide open and with the slip as high as it was did nt see a need to run that hard yet. I was basically out of RPM and was not going the speeds that I should have or even close for that matter. It was about 10 am so the lake was pretty smooth. Other than that boat ran great. I did nt figured everything would be dialed it the very first trip out anyways. Just needs a little tweaking to get it right. |
1 guess 1 m.p.h. slower than mine. doug
Well tested the boat again today. Ran it up to about 90 with the 1" spaceer in. That was at 5500. Water was pretty smooth. Put on the 5 blades and later on in the afternoon it was rough. Boat really liked the rough water. I was at 80 at 4500 rpm. Did nt run it too hard cause the cops were on the water by then. I think I still need to space down another inch. Boat ran about 5 mph faster with the spacer. Its getting closer but still needs some tweaking. BTW i was full of gas on the first run and about 3/4 on the last. So i probably lost about 250 pds from fuel. This boat gets on plane very easy and loves rough water. My buddy had his 22 daytona out there and was getting beat to hell. I could have had a drink in my hand and not even spilled it. Definitley rides like a cadillac in the rough stuff.
Keep swinging Rob, I'm sure you will get it dialed in. Doug
The good thing is its up and running. If all else fails add more boost :D

Looking good!
Ok borrowed a 2" spacer today. We will try that out this weekend. I can also stack the 2 and 1 to make a 3" if necessary. Would just need to borrow the coller. So even if i space down a total of 3" my prop shaft would be even with the bottom of the boat. F.Y.I. thats how my eliminator was setup. I do hope the 2" does it, but i get a feeling i will end up with a 3" to put me where i need to be.
Which props (and diameter/pitch/rake) are you running?
I have 36 pitch bravo 1 I borrowed from eliminator and I have 32 pitch 5 blade maximus that are mine. I like the 5 blade better because there is less vibration and has a little better cruise speed. It does make sense though since the slip is so high that the 5 blade would be better at this point in time. Boat planes out at 2500 rpm. It does it with ease with either 4 or 5 blade. Bravo 1 is 15 1/4 and maximus are 15 5/8 dia. All props are stock.

Rob, The Jag sure looks good in the water. I can set you up with these 572's, the extra inches couldn't hurt. Nice winter project. Doug
Ccando....The problem right now is prop slip. With the 1" spacer and the 5 blade maximus I was still at 21% slip. Also the hull is still very wet with positive trim. I did notice at about 80 it is stating to free up a bit. I think I just need to get the drive height correct before i make any more changes.
Doug, the bigger inches would definitely help. Let me know what you want for them and we can go from there. Yes, it would be a nice winter project. I remember riding in your boat and it seemed to wander a little bit at the cruising speeds. Mine did this as well, however since I started lowering the drive height I noticed that it is starting to go away. Also before the spacers I put the trim tabs about even with the bottom (number 4 on the gauge) and that made all that wondering go away as well. Just a lil info for you i found by experimenting with the trim tabs.
I thought the wandering or wallowing was due to the two leading edges or my poor driving ablilty. Thats good info. The wandering doesn't bother me as long as it's gone at high speeds. We will discuss the 572's during the big cat run. You have 2 months to get the Jag dialed in. Good luck this weekend. Doug

I did t like how the interior shop put the scoops on so I had them change it. I like it much better now. Here are a couple pics. Can we say eliminator? LOL
Nice Rob!
About what speed are you encountering the wandering? |
40-50 mph. BTW I have not had my boat porpoise at any speed yet. I have had it at a steady speed 70, 75 , and 80 and nothing. I know Doug mentioned that his did it around 80. So who knows. I have a different CG so that is probably making it not do that, however it may do it at a faster speed though.
How do I get a pic of my boat under my name like you guys? I'm jealous.
goto member options (top left) and click on edit avatar. You should be able to figure it out from there. I hope :D
There you go Doug. Look at my avatar. Now you dont have to change yours......God i kill myself sometimes :D

Ok ran the boat this afternoon. Got the prop slip down to 16% Was not able to run it hard cause of the cops on the lake. I did mange to see 4000 rpm = 75 mph. I was cruising at 3000 which was 52. So I need to go during the week when the high speed zone is open and see what it will run top end. If it can pull 5500-5800 with this setup it should be close to 110. The faster you go usually the slip decreases.
Good progress!
Rob, Nice avator, I will try to change mine this week? Plan for the big cat poker run and find some wind and rough water for your testing. You will go back to the trailer smiling. Are you happy with the boat's ride and handling? Doug
I am extremely happy with the way the boat handles and rides. At first I was not, but with the spacers I ve been putting in, it has changed everything for the better. It seems that the more I space the lowers down the better everything is getting. I am not even using the tabs now. All of the wandering is pretty much gone. Still no porpoise at any speed as of yet. Just need to get it to run the top end numbers that is should and I'll be in heaven, especially for the amount of money I have invested in this thing. The Sunday I tested 2 weeks ago was fairly rough and pretty breezy. It was breezy enough to blow the boat around when I was trying to put it back on the trailer. Yes I could tell a big difference in the hull trying to lift when the conditions were like that. That was with the 1" spacer. With the 2" installed It would probably be even better.
Took the boat out today. Was breezy with just a slight chop. Was about 92 degrees. I did actually encounter a slight porpoise at about 80. Almost not even worth mentioning. Was nothing compared to my 22 daytona I had though. Boat ran 102 at 5500. That equals to 18% prop slip. Gonna try a 3" spacer and see how that does. DCB had their 35' wide body out there with 1075's running 160
That's a really good speed per dollar spent. You have a great ride for cheap. It sure would have been nice if they would have cut the holes for the drives in the correct spot. Doug
Well actually its good that they did nt. The engines are moved slightly tword the center of the boat about 2-3" They are not centered in the stringers. If the engines were 2-3" lower the exhaust lines and other stuff would be hitting the bottom hump of the tunnel. I would rather space down then wonder if the "X" should have been higher for the setup. At least I know now. Since one has never been rigged with bravos it was not like I could call someone and ask where was the best spot for the drives. BTW nice avatar Doug

Good stuff! The Jags are awesome rough water boats. |
Doug, How much does it cost to enter the poker run? With work being as slow as it is, im not sure I will be able to afford the cost of the trip. How many drive hours is it from say L.A. to where you are?
Rob, It's about an 8 hour drive and the cost for the run is $125 per person if registered by June 30th. $175 at the run. I understand money is tight but this is a good run. I hope you can make it. We can cruise the delta on the Friday before the run.I thought about the scope run at Long Beach in September but I can't confirm until after the Big Cat run. Doug
Here's why I can't make the run:
it's 1,922 miles each way – about 1 day 7 hours (without pulling a trailer) from my area. Hope you have fun Doug (and Rob). Looking forward to more videos. John |
Ok Doug im doing some rough figuring trying to see what a ball cost it going to be for me. You said that you run alot of miles on the boat. How many gallons of gas do you roughly burn for the weekend?
