Bob's Jag

Your Jag is looking great Bob!

Mine also had the heavy aluminum engine hatches (now carbon/core), aluminum forward hatch (now carbon/core), aluminum "tie bar protector" on the transom , huge amounts of heavy aluminum cross bracing in the engine compartment, plus an amazing number of SS bolts, heavy roll cage, heavy seats, and more.

bobsbillets 03-16-2010 03:41 PM

My hatches were fiberglass and weighed about 125 pds ea. Ill post some pics of the the bottom once im done gel coating it. I had a bunch of access covers that were cut into the deck of the boat. They had an aluminum cover on top, fiberglass center core and an aluminum frame underneath. I fiberglassed up all the holes in the deck. Now it is all smooth and looks much nicer. Also saved about 50 pds of aluminum weight there. The scrap yard is gonna love me when i show up! BTW just the lifting hardware (heavy stainless steel) was like another 50 pds too! Like I said the boat is on a serious diet!!

27daytona 03-18-2010 09:22 PM

Bob, What is your time line for completion. Will I see you at the Desert Storm run? Post some pics. Doug

bobsbillets 03-19-2010 09:51 AM

Im really busting my ass to get this thing on the water. I have completly re-gelcoated the bottom and should have it back on the trailer or ready to be back on the trailer monday. The goal was for desert storm, but not sure. I have about a month to basically rig the boat. Im just taking stuff and swapping from one boat to another, so im hoping I can have it done in about 2 weeks! That then gives me about 2 weeks for what ever else I am not thinking of at the moment!!

Pics for Doug....

Dueclaws 03-19-2010 12:19 PM

Bob-
Your trailer looks great too. I haven't found a good place to get mine done, but am looking.

bobsbillets 03-19-2010 07:37 PM

I had extreme do it. They make the trailers that eliminator uses. I had them sand blast, repaint, L.E.D. lights, all new brakes. Trailer is basically new for $3K:D And with the drive guard my trailer is 44 feet long:eek: I put the stickers back on myself.

27daytona 03-19-2010 11:03 PM

Hurry, Hurry. The desert is calling you. I sure would like to see the boats together. Thanks for the pics, nice job. Doug

bobsbillets 03-19-2010 11:21 PM

Maybe if you came and helped me sand all 6 gallons of gelcoat ive sprayed:D

27daytona 03-20-2010 02:57 PM

I thought you were putting the Jag on a diet. I'm not a very good sander kind of guy. Bob, you are doing a great job and you should be very happy with the Jag hull. Doug

Dueclaws 03-21-2010 11:37 AM

How far is Antelope from Riverside anyway?
I'm with Doug: I hate sanding, but have more to grind inside of area under the deck and in front of the cockpit. It's really bad to work in those enclosed areas.

Do either of you have ballast tanks in the nose? Mine has the tanks, but I've never used them.

27daytona 03-21-2010 07:40 PM

There are no tanks in mine. I'm located outside of Sacramento, about 400 miles from the L.A. area. Close enough for Bob and myself to get together for a poker run. We have the Big Cat Delta run I believe in August if he isn't ready for desert Storm. I am still a bad sander. Doug

bobsbillets 03-21-2010 09:25 PM

Sanding sucks ass. Grindin on fiberglass does as well. I have alot more time than I do money, so Im a sandin mo fo!! Transom is done and buffed. I cant believe how shinny it is! I have about 1 hours with of sanding then Ill buff the entire bottom. Should have everything done tomorrow. Looks like Ill have it back on the trailer wednesday. I have to glass in the fuel tanks and a bulk head. More gelcoat in the bilge, dash, and deck then its time to rig this bad boy! After all the gel ive done so far, i figure about a week to complete the rest of that. I m figuring 2 weeks to rig. Based on those estimates desert storm may actually be a reality! Ill take some pics once im done buffing. I have no ballast tank in my boat.

27daytona 03-21-2010 11:38 PM

See you in the desert. I register in the 100 m.p.h. class, so maybe we can run together. Please keep the pics coming. Doug

Looks great. Doug

Dueclaws 03-24-2010 08:29 AM

Great job Bob!

bobsbillets 03-24-2010 09:32 AM

Thanks, should be back on the trailer tomorrow. How many 35' s were made? Why dont we hear from anyone else?

27daytona 03-24-2010 07:03 PM

I don't know how many were made, I believe most were race boats and ex race boats are like ex wifes. The original owners no longer care about them and they are big and expensive to keep around. Jack would know, give him a call and tell him you are saving one of his creations. He can tell you the history of your boat, he remembers them all. Doug

bobsbillets 03-24-2010 09:55 PM

I called that guy 3-4 different times, left messages and he never retuned any of my calls. Boat is scheduled to go back on the trailer tomorrow. I derigged about 1/2 the eliminator today and monday the Jag is going to the shop to get the holes cut for the drives. As of right now its looking very realistic that I can make Desert Storm.

27daytona 03-24-2010 11:18 PM

Wow, try e-mailing Jack. He seemed great when I spoke to him. Good news about Desert Storm, I'm looking forward to the event. Doug

Dueclaws 03-25-2010 08:55 AM

Bob-
Jack has always answered my calls and has shared a lot of info. I haven't spoken with him in about 7 months though.

The progress on your Jag is amazing!
Great job!
John

bobsbillets 03-25-2010 09:44 AM

I called him about a year or so ago when I first got the boat. Was trying to get info on it. It was a good number, but like I said he never returned my calls, so I gave up and posted on here. I appreciate all the info and help John and Doug! Yeah Im busting my ass trying to get this thing ready. I still have to Dyno one engine since we were never able to tune for boost on the lake. For some reason my lightning headers kept burning out his oxygen sensor at around 4500 rpm. Was'nt even building boost yet and was running about 90 in the 28 daytona:eek: That was about half throttle and is setup for 8 psi :DI Should make about 725-750 I would guess now with all the changes I made. Started out as 502 mag and made 675 on dyno. Rebuilt engines myself and went to JE pistons 8.5 to 1, HP 500 cams, lightning headers, Crane gold rockers, and a smaller top pully for more boost. I bought a set of stellings headers that I want to run them, but I have the old side mount whipples on my 502's. Those headers will hit the blowers. I need a top mount setup and want to run a 3.3 whipple on them. When I change the setup I will run the stellings.

Jag is back on the Trailer :D Neighbor helping in the pics..

bobsbillets 04-09-2010 08:52 AM

Doug, I don't think Im gonna make desert storm. There is not enough time for me to complete the boat. It will be close, but I dout it. Im still wondering about the weight on these things. I had all the interior in, complete rigging, just no engines or drives. Went and weighed it and im just over 5000 pds. So figuring 2500 pds for engines and drives(bravos are pretty light) still cannot figure out how they could weigh in at 11,000 pds. Ill be at roughly 7500 pds. dry. Doug it would be really cool if you could weigh your setup. I took weight out of the boat, but realisticly it was about 500 pds with everything I added back in.

Dueclaws 04-09-2010 09:00 AM

Bob-
Nice to see it back on the trailer.

27daytona 04-09-2010 11:22 PM

Bob, I have the weight tickets in my Kodiak. I will check the numbers and post this weekend. Come to the Desert and I'll have a seat for you. Doug

bobsbillets 04-11-2010 09:44 AM

I have friends that live in Havasu. Ill seriously consider your offer! PM me your cell number so I can give you a call if i come out. Looking forward to the weight tickets. Also, I remember you saying that you had a weight from myco on your trailer. It could be wrong. They told me mine weighed 3000 pds. and when I weighed it, it was 3450 pds.

27daytona 04-11-2010 10:47 PM

Bob, I dug up the weight tickets, these are certified cat scale numbers. Total weight is 14120 with one motor removed and the trailer empty weighted 4840. I unhooked from the Kodiak on the scale. Figuring a big block chevy with 1071 blower dressed at about 1000 lbs. The total should be about 15100 minus the 4840 for a total of 10260 lbs. for the boat only and I believe since this was after the wreck it should have carried about 80 gallons of fuel on board. So dry weight rigged I suppose should be about 9700 lbs. Guess it's not as big of a pig as I thought. I did have all tools and stuff removed, that's about another 200 lbs. The other tag that I have is total rig , Kodiak and boat and trailer at 26700 and the Kodiak weights 10500. That is how I arrived at my 11000 number. Ready to run, full of fuel and tools, stuff and a crew of 4 counting me 11000 is probably a little short. I know with bravos you will be lighter but all the rigging adds up quickly. I guess it's time for me to loose weight and find a really light crew. I hope this rambling helps. Hope to see you in the Desert. Doug

27daytona 04-11-2010 10:56 PM

Bob, My cell is 916 539-2540. Doug

bobsbillets 04-13-2010 09:05 AM

Doug, can you email me your B2B video? Ill PM you my email addesss. I went to view it awile back and the hosting site had changed. Also do you have any more videos or pics of your boat that are not on here? Would like to see them!

27daytona 04-13-2010 11:43 PM

Rob, I am not much of a tech guy. I suggest that you meet me in Havasau and bring a vidio capable camera and take shots from the boat. The only pics are some copter shots and I can't scan them. I'll check with friends and maybe they can post some. Doug

Nice job. Doug

bobsbillets 06-04-2010 01:34 PM

Weighed the Jag today. With everything in batteries, interior, drives, props, ect., and 80 gal of gas came in at 7700. So take out 500 pds for gas, boat weighs 7200 dry. That is 300 pds lighter than my 7500 pd. dry estimate :D
