True, but the guy was a solid 95 and the boat traffic was tough. pretty impressive for a Fountain. He was airing it right out every time I looked over he was all twisted out of shape in the air. Gotta love it.. He passed us going the other way and did what every true motor head would turned in chase, lol...
GPS is still out to lunch, it constantly is sweeping like a reset, I don't have time to mess with it yet. Jason took out a lot of fuel and made some idle adjustments. if it runs like it did today i will be very happy, we maxed 5860 rpm's with 89 gallons and 3 people. Not bad thats where we were with 20 gallons and me alone before the fine tuning. I filled the tank after almost running out and stopping @ 2 places who sold 87... But the dock girls offered octane boost, lol. We found a place with 93 and put 77 gallons in what I thought was a 70 gallon tank. I looked at the capacity sticker and it said 89 gal.. but even better my buddy Brett @ BBLades sent me a prop it came today which should get the rpm's to 6400.... I need to try it tomorrow.. I will report how the weekend goes, looks like a good turn out tonight for my event, the big day with he band is tomorrow.. We have 2 Kryptos which both go over 100. Mike's ran 102 last year and he got a top end freshen and went from 7psi to 10psi netting him about 60hp from 860 to 920 @ 5800. I forget what his rpm was with the prop he has a B1 30. He may need a 32... we will see tomorrow. Ok I just got home from a long day which started @ 5am with a trip to Lake george. I will post after this weekend... You are all missing out,,,slackers.... Good night |

Good night Anyways, I'm just happy I was able to comprehend a long post from you. Those others ones about your engine issues got my panties in a bunch:lolhit: |
Sounds like you got her dialed in. I'm sure you'll be happy with the numbers you see. Grab that hand held...and take a few pics. I'd love to be there but it just didn't work out for me...have fun!
|
Sorry man, I wish I could have come up there but the way my work is screwing me around I just couldnt plan that far ahead. First i was leaving on Monday, then it was last wednesday, then Monday again, now its NEXT monday. You didnt bring a handheld with you?? Come on man you are killing us here. :party-smiley-004:
you are spinning a 34" right? That puts you still at 107mph with 15% slip. You definitely have more in it. Another thing that you might want to think about it that these boats are so light, when you fill them with fuel they REALLY slow down. Figure 80 gallons of fuel is like 500lbs, or more than 10% of the weight of the boat. Mine would consistently run 5-7mph slower with a good load of fuel, sometimes even more if I had other crap on board. |
I just cant believe how stable the boat is at 110...its like nothing. Gotta love it :coolcowboy: Thats 3 Kryptos with Saris Racing Engines now :evilb:
|
Im stlll having some issues. I am going to install a new ign box the 6al seems to not be cutting it. i will report more when its done
|
Any updates Don? Looking forward to seeing some running videos of that thing.

The engine is out of the boat, too much blowby.. I hate the mess and will not settle for anything less that perfection. We called Akerly & Childs to get some information as to how long the rings should take to break in. I recorded 20-38% leak down. They said due to the tool steel rings (best available the molly rings just dont hold up to the heat with a high boost motor), that even with a 280 grit finish the cylinders most likely broke in before the rings seated.
So yesterday we pulled it out of the boat and took off the heads, sure enough the cylinders were glazed. so we are going to hone it again as recommended by Akerly & Childs with the 280 grit. They are confident that the rings will seat this time. We will break them in, in the boat. Also we noted #4 was clean, the Injectors are going on the injector test bench today to get flow tested.Even though they are new my hope is #4 is leaking down or hanging open. That would account for the tuning issues. After seeing what we found I am very confident this will solve many of my issues. The other option was run it and pull it down over the winter... Not an option. I would be stressing all summer wondering and would have been chasing the tuning issue. #4 may have solved it. There is definitely something going on there. I will keep you posted |
Damn, Don, that just isnt the news I was hoping for. Hopefully you can get it back together relatively quickly. Good luck with it.

The plan it to have it back in the boat and running perfict before next Tuesday |
Well atleast it sounds like you found what was giving you the tuning issues. I'm sure it was driving you crazy.......
|
It was... The block is off the hone and going together with new rings. The plan is to install it back in the boat sometime tomorrow. Brett @ BBLades has my 32 and going to take some slip out of it. When that is done I will send out the 34 for the same treatment. I think I am going to add some boost to get the 34 to run 6200 or so, it will make for a great cruising prop as thats what I do mostly, 40 miles runs each way to lunch with the family . I really liked the 34. But maybe the 32 will be ok when the slip numbers get in line.
|
what kind of slip numbers were you running with the 32p? Mine runs pretty high slip as well. Let me know how it works out after Brett works on it.
Should have a damn good cruise with that 34p. |
The 32 had 28%..., the 34 has 22% just a little to high. Last year I ran a stock 30 it had 15%.
Brett wil get them dialed. |
The motor is back in the boat, and running on the hose. I took Monday and Tuesday off. Now to get it dialed again... I left it with Perf marine as my O2 sensor still after months has not arrived... Accel's customer service is very disappointing. I may just get on line and find one. Having the boat 4.5 hours away is stressful to say the least. And I cant be there.... I hope to get it before the weekend it will be a late night trip 9 hours round trip. then work. I will need a ton of 5 hour energy to get thru the day before and after. I wonder if its all worth it... guess I will better answer that in a few weeks. After some seat time, If not im calling Dean Nickerson and throwing all the EFI stuff in the lake...
|
Jason and johnny had it out on the lake and said it was rich, they tuned from idle to 5K. There was a small oil leak which was dealt with. And the ITS needs to be bleed, you have to turn is slowly to the left to keep it straight. So they only did one short blast to 5600 or so. I hope they are out now getting the EFI set. I missed the last of two poker runs on my lake one which I sponsored... Was there but boat was not running good enough to run... Today all the boats went by my fuel dock many stopped in for gas and to ask how my boat was doing... I should make a sign so I don't have to keep telling the same story, maybe a recording I can just push when they ask. I hope to have all this behind me Tuesday when I pick it up.... good news I found a O2 sensor kit from accel. its on its way, cant wait for accel any more. I may run it in closed loop and data log, then every run I can make adjustments to the cells to get them closer to the AF mix I want. In time it will be perfect and I can either pull the O2 sensor, or lock it to a very small percentage of allowable change so if the O2 takes a crap it cant adjust very much anyway.
I put a 14' rowboat in my boat house, I will post a picture. Anyone know of any runs coming up, I want to do at least one, I heard thousand islands have a good run. I heard its really rough there might want to leave the wife behind? |
Good news Don. Sounds like you got it. Can't wait to see the numbers it puts up.
We have a cool run on August 14 (I think) on the Chesapeake. Basically a fun run my buddy puts on. We leave one marina and have a heli follow us to a lunch spot and take pics. We then head to another spot for a big raft up. Back to the marina for some fun later that night. He had 35 boats last year....it was a blast. If your interested let me know. |
Its a fast mofo I can tell you that. I dont string it out (Ill leave that to Don :p) but the short burts we do are all well over 100

Looks about 300 miles plus, where about on the Chesapeake? Give me some more details, is it a wekend event? How rough it the water usually? My wife does not like big water unless I go slow an im not driving 600+ miles round trip to go slow. Is it a family event my son is 9. I could get a sitter but need to know in advance.
Thanks |

Here is a link about it on speedwake http://www.speedwake.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64845 Anchor Marina is on the Northeast River. I usaully just make a day of it but many make it a weekend event. Plenty of nearby hotels if you want to come for the weekend. I could show you all around the Chesapeake Bay. Hard to say how the water will be. Sometimes it's calm...others it kicks up pretty good. Family is fine to come...I have a 6 year old daughter.

Its exit 100 off of I-95, Route 272 East to NorthEast, Md. The Northern Bay is mostly fresh water fed by 5 Rivers, the Upper Bay is an incredible spot to boat, great mix of everything. Anchor Marine has a great launch - Golf Carts to run you back to your boat or Rig when you pull, fuel and the Nauti Goose Restaurant and Bar is right there. Great people, easy access and good times hope you can make it. I am hoping to be back on the water then, had some slight catastrophic parts failures, that I am addressing...should be back and getting wet by the end of the month or so. Any direction questions shoot me an email - I travel the East Cosast for work, I know virtually every way to get from point A to point B - pulling a boat. Danny :sport009: |

Danny :sport009: Danny, Thanks looks like 300 miles. Im in Watkins Glen, NY. I would need a close place to sleep over, and might bring my son he is 9. But may get a sitter for the weekend. Depending on what you think the dinner would be like, would it be appropriate to bring a kid? Or is it adult entertainment? Will there be other family's or just adults? I need to see if I can free up a weekend, and if I want to truck the boat that far. Do you have a permit for the event? I am wondering about noise ordnances. It does look like a fun relaxed event which might just fit the bill. Thanks |
We don't need any permits. He sets everything up with the marina and restuarants and once the heli shows up we roll out. Nobody enforces the noise ordinance. You would most likely enjoy yourself more without the young one...both during the run and after. This place is a couple miles from the marina and is where alot of people stay.....http://www.holidayinn.com/hotels/us/...ET/hoteldetail

...any news Don?

More testing today, we made a 1/2 spacer so I could test a wider range of props. we had to do some custom work on the coupler between the SCX and SC, IMCO does not make any spacers beside the stock one for that combination. so we had to make one. and modify the 1/2" spacer plate to work with the -3 lower. Its always something..
I have a long story to write on how good the soft touch rev control works on the MSD digital 7 plus... But am too tired now. You can guess.... Good news is the boat house is almost done, I have a 14' row boat in it, no motor. I just get in and paddle, pretty simple. Push the remote and it goes up and down, maybe I will put a big screen in the gable end and a sound system. A few recliners in the rowboat and I will be all set. O and a tap system with lines that come down from the roof so I dont have to get out of my seat. Maybe watch Pegged (a great vid on poker runs) and pretend I have a 175mph Skater or something. occasionally grab the oars and pretend I just passed that Skater... O man I need some sleep.. Good night |

I know its been a while but the marina is hopping not much time to play. I did a small poker run last week put 3 hours on the clock 5 people in the boat full of fuel. It ran really good, waves were 4's most of the day. I didn't run over 85 and that was near dusk and the lake was calming down.. Most of the day was between 30-60. Here are interior pics, I took yesterday. I have not tested it below 3/4 tank everytime I go out I fill it all 90 gallons. I am running at best 5700-5800 rpms, I make best HP over 6400. I am holding up dialing in the prop and the final tuning to see if I am going to keep the boat. I may have it sold, if so the motor is commig out next week. and going into a cat, well thats happening anyway. I am closing on the cat soon. Anyone want a V10 625hp Ilmore with 100 hours on it? I may keep it to have around or might sell it. Ilmore said its worth 20K. I am going to look around and see what is out there to get an idea of price.

The wooden blocks under the seats come out but are great if you are short, lol.
|
Don, boats looking great! Nice talking with you today. Hope everything works out with the cat. You need to post a picture of the paint job with the perls:eek:.
Looks like you have a water leak under the speaker starboard side inside your cabin:party-smiley-004: |

Looks like you have a water leak under the speaker starboard side inside your cabin:party-smiley-004: Yep the boat is about done, time to sell it pull the motor and start another project. Good talking with you too. BTW the Ilmore is 260# lighter than a 600 merc and 4.5" longer same width and stringer setup so it will fit.... Let me know if you want to give it a test ride before I pull it out.. |
Looks good Don. You owe it to yourself and to all of us to test it at least once with it damn near empty, just to see what it will do. Make sure you bring a camera and a handheld GPS for proof. :party-smiley-004:
|
To make it run where it needs I need to send the prop out, I doubt I will do that knowing the motor is coming out. Its a waste of $1,000 or so. But I will give it a run with a 34 I had cut down. It ran 107 with that prop full of fuel. My guess is 113 or so empty, if I got the other 600 rpms or so out of it that's another 100+ hp its running 5700-5800 needs to be 6400 or so. I am taking it out tomorrow running it for a perspective buyer. I'm near just under 1/2 tank of fuel. I may get on it some, The wind is supposed to be 3 mph so that will not help. but we will see.
